Last week I did a video showcasing Ultimate Admiral: Age of Sail with its immersive & tactical naval battles, fabulous variety of ships & fresh take on colonial era warfare. The company that developed it, Gamelabs, was headed up by none other than legendary Total War modder Darth Vader who created the Darthmods we all love and adore across many Total War titles.

In today’s video I’ll be spotlighting the brilliant Ultimate General Civil War, arguably the land battle equivalent of Age of Sail which has some seriously brilliant battle gameplay to get stuck into especially as it’s set during the American Civil War. I’ll be taking you through all the key features, what you can expect from the game & why you absolutely need to try it out!

I hope you enjoyed this video guys and found it informative! If you did, give the video a like and absolutely drop your thoughts and any questions at all!

Definitely subscribe to the channel for more strategy game content, gameplay & news like this & thanks for watching guys!

I wish dudes made something from european wars. Napoleonic, seven year or 30 year wars etc.

Veterans are not only somewhat worth to keep and grow but they are worth their weight in gold as well, their stats are so far superior that it makes it so bloody painful if you screw up and loose one or two of those units. They are literally irreplaceable without sacrificing massively in other venues.

I loved how the campaign switched to trench warfare as the war went on

Thoroughly played this game 4 times, 2 times in each side. Still entertains me till this day when I load up the occasional save I have for each campaign to replay battles. Speaking of which, you should try Grand Tactician Civil War. It's the combination of Total War and UGCW.
  • Gotta say brother it's been a real pleasure watching your channel grow and come into the big deal you've grown into. Then you even covered 2 of my mods, the first one I made still one I hold a soft spot for, scouting just wasn't covered in Rome 2, and I think we did a lot to alieviate that with increased expensive agents and then wanting to reduce the large load order we had getting a true 12 turns per year campaign going for divide et impera, increasing the campaign management to paradox levels, and with ultimate 12 turns per year for Rome 2, I really feel we got that right and your spotlights really helped us show off those mods to a greater audience, so while it's been amazing from a fans point of view, it's also been fruitful as a fellow modder out here just trying to get eye balls on our mods, you've been amazing for this community and I'm excited to see these additional games in the grand/real time strategy genre is awesome. I still recommend the hegemony series. There is the first one in ancient greece, or there's the 2nd with Caesars campaigns in gaul, then a full on rise of Rome with 3. There is an amazing mod for hegemony 3, called classical world, which gives you a full on total war sized map to conquer hegemony style which is a really cool blend of grand and real time strategy. At any point on the map at any time, you can zoom out from a grand strategy campaign type map down to a real time layer where you can navigate troops look around for natural terrain advantages to occupy, or push towards, or just build up your cities with. It's a lot of fun. While the troops sizes are not as big as they can get on Rome 2 et all you can still get a large variety of units, and thst classical world mod, the guy sjz has been working on it for over 5 years and added hundreds of units across dozens of factions covering a large period of Antiquity. If you haven't checked it out yet, I really recommend try hegemony 3, rise of the ancients I believe, the standard game covers the rise of Rome across Italy, Sicily, and hopefully Carthage and the Punic wars one day, but with thst classical world mod it covers everything from the middle east to western Europe, just amazing stuff.

1:59 The pronunciation of Shiloh and Antietam were kinda funny to me lmao

Tempted to get this just to support the guy who gave us a mod I continue to enjoy very much.

Wow man! So glad to see you recommending the series again. Maybe they'll be more likely to crank out their planned American Rev game with some more fans begging for it.
  • @Zaitekno
I really loved playing this game, what a great gem, never played anything like it and I had a great time.
  • @Daygoth
Underrated 🐐 I'm glad you highlighted the AI. I'm always impressed by the computer. I'll think it's blundering, then I realize it traded 200 musket recruits for 10 of my heavy cannon, and I'm like damn I wouldn't have thought of that.
  • @joshuaglass1827
Man this reminds me of my childhood playing sid meiers civil war. Went and got a cheap gaming laptop just to play this and the great war western front.
  • @utkphilobio
Absolutely one of my favorite games of all time! I bought their next title even though I don't have a PC to play it on just because I loved what the devs did with UG:CW.
  • In a sense Ultimate General is what I wanted Total War Empire and Napoleon to be.

Hey there Terminator! Belated "welcome back"! As much as I always appreciate and enjoy your Total War games mod reviews, it is great to see you expanding your reviews into other games as well! Thanks to your recent Age of Sail game review, I discovered, while searching for it on Steam, Ultimate General- Gettysburg and UG-Civil War. The price was right so bought both on an impulse without knowing much about either one and so was thrilled to see your very positive UG-Civil War review today. Although Gettysburg is an older title, I have to say that it is a lot of fun too and on sale for on $1.89 CDN! :) Apparently UG-American Revolution is planned for a 2023 release date so the fun just keep on coming! Keep up the great reviews!
  • One of things I love about this game - especially for the Confederacy - is the importance of reorganizing your corps between battles. Some battles you want high ratios of cavalry - as in Gettysburg, for example - while others you want virtually none, as in 2 Bull Run. In that at least, "strategic" choices between battles are enormous. In general the AI plays remarkably well, though it can be suckered into useless piecemeal attacks. Also, It's possible to win every battle on either side (though I found Antietam for the CSA as by far the hardest). Thanks for a great review!
  • @bagmuk6
I just got the game in sale and it's amazing I haven't stopped playing it .please make more :)
