  • UNC alum here. Two things to understand why the UNC BOT seems to be suddenly flipping out, one long term, one short term. First, the entire UNC athletic department and donor support hangs off of basketball success. It is only a slight exaggeration to say the only reason the Rams Club (boosters) exist is to secure season tickets in the Dean Dome. That's the long term backgound issue. More immediate, UNC appears to be already losing the NIL battle to deeper pocketed schools. At least that is what die hard hoops fans think when UNC whiffs on all its big man portal targets this cycle while Calipari loads up in Arkansas. In that sense the future is now and BOT members are surely getting an earful from Big Rams about it. When the Bubba-Preyer spat first happened I pointed out that Bubba was simply in denial about how the media rights gap will inevitably morph into a NIL gap and then a competition gap as donors' program support dollars are shifted to NIL collectives. In a matter of weeks Bubba has managed to fall even further behind the curve. I would not be surprised if some trustees ask for his resignation on Thursday to convey the gravity of the times.
  • Great work TJ! If you didn’t know I think UNC fans like myself consider FSU/Clemson fans friends :) UNC is gone, how they get around the BOGs I don’t know. It’s just nice to see them confirming the writing on the wall. Preyer has in the past, but this feels different.

There are some people at UNC that still don't get it, strangely enough. ANY school in the ACC who cares about their football program KNOWS that status quo is not acceptable, but means a slow death. Not sure if it's ignorance or arrogance, but they need to wake up lol
  • @WeSRT4
The addition of Texas and California to the Atlantic Coast Conference should be one of the arguments brought up by the schools that want to leave.

Getting so excited! Huh? What is UNC going to say? John Swofford Athletic director at UNC 1980 - 1997 Commissioner of ACC 1997 - 2021 John Skipper UNC Alumni President of ESPN 2012–December 2017 Holden Thorp UNC Chancellor 2008 to 2013 ACC President's Chair UNC did this.

Bubba sees the writing on the wall if UNC is no longer in the ACC (based in NC) - they won't have any control/power like they did/do in the ACC if they're in the SEC or Big 10 as the new guy on the block.

The thing that kills me about all of this is the fact that they want the case heard in North Carolina but come to Florida for the annual meeting every year so they do business dealings in Florida when it benefits them but not when it doesn't. That's an absolute joke to me

“A House Divided Against Itself Cannot Stand.” ( Abraham Lincoln). Could easily be talking about the PAC in 3023 and the ACC in 2024.

I am an alum of UNC and a member of the Rams Club. I have used my “points” to get better seats at football. I have been called and told I am eligible for bball tickets, but do not buy them. I see what’s going on as the BOT trying to move forward with moving due to the canceler being “interim”. Bubba will go to meeting Thursday. It’s closed, but something will come out. #GoHeels #GDTBATH

I still can't believe some people think the ACC will survive this...🤦🏻‍♂️ #RIPACC
  • @FSUscar
The SEC/BIG is superior has already started and not just our screw job, Duke softball had the #3 RPI and got a 10 seed in their tournament. The NCAA basketball tournament will soon be a combination of 40 teams from the SEC/BIG and 24 spots for the other conferences, not sure how "Bubba" doesn't get it.
  • Three schools voted no to adding SMU, Stanford, and Cal. FSU, Clemson, and UNC. NC State was onboard but "changed" to voting them in.
  • @gnorley
This all looks very fiduciary. All above board here folks!
  • @bk6678
This is nuts. This is about nothing else but football. This is about football brands: FSU, Clemson, Virginia Tech, and Miami.
  • B10 and SEC killing college sports. I don't even wanna watch anymore
  • @TheYates27
Not sure why UNC would want to stay when they have a ticket to the Power 2 ?
  • The AD is still of the old guard at UNC who is Pro ACC/BIG. The chair was appointed by the NC BOG that is NC State and Pro SEC. Most of the old guard at UNC with power have been pushed out the last 20 months. Go check it out. They've been replaced by people appointed from the NC BOG. On top of the Pro SEC group who now has power at UNC, UNC is in serious athletic financial debt. They already have a 17M downfall for the upcoming budget. These guys want out of the ACC. Bubba wants to stay. There is a serious rock fight going on at UNC. By the way, there is a new meeting Thursday morning and conference realignment is on the docket. Should be fun.
