I remember when this song came out, I was a bartender and it not being so busy, I watched VH1. The song "Sunny came home" by Shawn Colvin was released about the same time. These were played continuously.

I find so many similarities between this song and Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car”. Both begin with a romance set in a car, and then the woman grows resentful as she ends up pulling more weight in the relationship while the man spends time with his friends at a bar instead of caring for the kids. She stays with him, but laments what could’ve been. Difference is that in this song he sells the car. Paula Cole was so amazing and was also part of the Lilith Fair concert tour. An amazing talent.
