The Flatiron trail in Superstitions is gnarly. I didn't know what I was getting into.    It certainly has a variety of landscapes and views, but eventually turns into a bushwacking nightmare. The trail gets progressively steeper and less like a trail, until it becomes boulder and tree branch climbing, and navigating by trail markers painted on the rocks. Eventually the last 20 feet or so are vertical. I was tempted to turn back several times, but was embarrassed by the young kids climbing around me. The view at the top is definitely worth the climb, but it helps to be aware of the struggle and mentally prepared.

I've done 2 of these : Grand Canyon SK to BA, and Superstition Flatiron. The GC hike is one of my all time favorite hikes next to Mnt. Whitney. I did it on June 23, 2007, in 12 hours. The temperature at the Indian Garden ranger station was 120º at 3 pm. I drank 7 liters of fluid. I also did some minor hiking in Organ Pipe Cactus. No major trails or significant landmarks, but simply interesting desert landscape, fauna and flora. I ran into a young big horn sheep, a baby tortoise, a tarantula, and a standoff between a rattlesnake and a jackrabbit.
  • That's a really nicely done video. Great scenery, but also the data on the actual hikes and the Google Earth views are super helpful. Thanks for taking the time!
  • I just did the Rim2Rim2Rim 04/03/24 It took me 27 hours, with a little bit of rest and no sleep but I made it 🙌 is extremely difficult.

A short but special trail to do would be the Hot Shots memorial trail in Yarnell AZ , I’ve done it once and I’ll be back ❤

Planning on trying the Mt. Baldy trail for the first time this August. I love how you have the topographical maps to show the trails! Have you ever tried the Nankoweap Trail in the North Rim of the Grand Canyon? Just came back from there although we didn't go far down into the canyon because of the summer heat.
