   • Gordie Howe International Bridge Cons...

Ironworkers from the US and Canada working on the new Gordie Howe International Bridge celebrated the bridge connection with a handshake , high above the Detroit River early Friday morning before sunrise.

A crane places a 68,000 pound beam on a truck on the bridge deck.

The construction of the Gordie Howe International Bridge is a major infrastructure project spanning both the United States and Canada. The bridge is named after Gordie Howe, a Canadian ice hockey player who was one of the greatest players in the history of the sport.

The project involves a significant workforce, including engineers, construction workers, project managers, environmental specialists, and various other professionals. These workers come from both sides of the border and collaborate to ensure the successful completion of the bridge.

Its cool to see this bridge up close and in person I was there on June 21st and took some personal photos with my camera, I also talked to an MDOT worker and it was mention that its safe to fly drone at Del Ray Park but not to fly it near the construction site on the bridge as they have drone detectors that can screw up with the signal and bring your drone down. And not risk a serious fine and jail time.

Really surprised to see so many guys walking/standing directly below that suspended beam.

Fascinating. The “cross” beam would appear to have the crown of the road already included in its outline. And do you know what are the hundreds of studs for extending out of the top surface of the beam ? Excellent capture. Will look forward to following the truck, carrying the beam to the middle of the bridge, and the installation.
  • Correct never walk under a suspended load where I worked that would have been a near miss 3 of these and you are sacked I worked as a rigger for ford’s Australia in the press shop (stamping)and the toolroom 1983-2016 right up to closure
