► Genshin Impacts brand new abyss in 4.7 is one of the most grueling and difficult challenges we've evr had... but why? I break down WHY this Abyss is so hard, but also the reasons why HoYoverse is increasing the abysses difficulty in the first place for F2P and lategame players alike. And finally I tackle the main question here. Is this a turning point in Genshin and HoYoverse's development strategy? Have competitors in the space proven that players DO want more difficult content, and is this Genshin's first step in delivering that... stay tuned to find out.

this abyss has more enemies than my dog at the dog park
  • @Rose-pr2nd
It’s always the waves of enemies that get me. I could easily 36 star the abyss if all the enemies came out at once, or at least in 2 waves and not 3-4. It also feels like every enemy is made to waste as much time as possible through mechanics that you can’t stop. At least I have a lot of characters, I can’t imagine going through the abyss lecture shields without Yelan.

My theory is that they ramped up the difficulty because of the new "endgame" mode, Imaginarium theater
  • One other thing is Imaginarium Theathre coming out. Imaginarium will buff certain characters for a whole month and those buffs carry over to the abyss! So if you plan it right, you can bring those buffed characters to the abyss and have a slightly easier time

Hoyo heard people liked Wuthering Waves so they gave us all the waves too

I don't think wuthering waves has anything to do with this abyss. First of all wuthering waves is not hard, it's a different type of combat, it's like understanding the reaction system in Genshin. Secondly, the abyss is leaked way before wuthering waves even comes out, and we knew that this abyss was hard before the patch went live by a month or so. I see the reasoning for this hard abyss is: 1) it's 30 day cycle now, so players have more time to do it, you can build a support character from scratch in a time like this (excluding artifacts but it's a support just slap random +20 and call it) so if you miss an "element" or "grouping" check or any "check", you can built new characters to help you meet that check which is a good thing imo, I remember building diona in 1.1 abyss for the cryo shield and didn't have the time to do it, we were early in the game so the building process was a bit harder but more days per cycle will help new players. 2) The second reason is the theater mode because it can buff some characters and I believe it carries into the abyss, but this depends on if these characters will be useful in the abyss cycle at the time or not. 3) power creep, Power creep in Genshin overall was always there but it was very unnoticeable, but recently it became a little bit noticeable. 4) lastly usually abyss tries to sell out the new character on banner, and this abyss is good for Clorinde, I think multiple waves is where she shines the most, especially with Thundering Fury artifacts. So because of that I believe next abyss will return to the normal difficulty or at least the waves will decrease to normal.
  • According to the last data report I saw, less than 8% of players are clearing/attempting the abyss anyways (also makes abyss content only appeal to those ~8%) But Imaginary Theatre will definitely boost those metrics, at least temporarily
  • @Callamuchi
suprised there was no mention that the abyss is harder because it now only resets once a month so players have more time to clear it
  • @aceswildfire
This was a tough three days and I'm so sad I missed the very end, but it was a wild ride and I enjoyed being present for most of it. Eakes dedication is impressive.

Well Abyss now gives 200 primos per floor instead of 150, so some added difficulty would kinda make sense. But I think it is mainly end of version spike and it will get easier with Natlan. I still remember that at end of Sumeru I had to pick teams for each chamber separately, because even with my best characters I was unable to get all stars in floor 12 with just two teams. Doing so is not really a problem for me today so my conclusion is that relative to characters I have, the current Abyss is easier than what we had during end of Sumeru.
  • @Alex-bc3gz
Having started in 4.1 this abyss is simply impossible to 36 star
  • @spacebanana712
Being a day 1 player, I still confidently say that the hardest abyss ever has been the 3.7 one. That was actually mega difficult to 36 star.
  • @Szczurzyslawa
Me who cried for 2 past abbysses but passed this one on 1st try:
  • @tTaseric
    >can't instantly wipe abyss with xiangling >"abyss is changing forever" lol, lmao
  • @axravy4922
yo for me this is the first patch that i could beat floor 12 (even tho it was 0 stars out of 9)
  • @AgentNoobEdits
My theory is that they are preparing us with the restrictions for the imagination theatre
  • @sindoray2094
People are so overrating Wuthering Waves, they are spewing nonsense to justify whatever they want. Genshin is not threatened by that worse copy, and if they did, they could've sued them to oblivion and beyond. 2nd, any gacha that just starts will receive a lot of money. Whalers want to whale to secure top slots and claim skills, and Youtubers would want everything to do the content. If you really want to see if WW is any good, just wait a year and then compare it to what Genshin did a year after launch. Also, pls stop claiming that if WW is harder to play, then Hoyo is changing Genshin to match that. Did Genshin change when Elden Ring released? No. Then stop it. They are 2 different games targeting different audience. Even if both are open world and both contain gacha elements. It's like comparing Football (soccer) to basketball as both use a ball and both use nets. Didn't Genshin increase difficulty between Liyue and Inazuma? Did a different game influence Genshin?
  • @ymullaney70
Only sucks because I got on the Genshin train late. By the time I catch up, they're going to raise the difficulty before I get a chance to enjoy being on top! LOL
  • @lunaticyoshi1
The real reason players find this abyss so hard: they didn't pull Neuvillette and his sig. This is Mihoyo's way of punishing waifu only players.
