"Stop being your own worst critic, and start being your own worst hypeman" i just got inspired so much from this quote alone i am going to make god himself fear what he has given me the ability to create
  • “Don’t point out the flaws. Doing this is like serving someone cake and then telling them you dropped it on the floor as soon as they take a bite” 😂
  • I make ugly art cause it’s fun and silly :3 and it usually makes my friends lose their shit at the piss posts I send them

If your struggling with being worried about ‘ugly art’ in your main sketchbook I’d recommend what I call a ‘Crap book’ Having a smaller sketchbook where you can get out quick doodles/thumbnails along with you regular sketchbook. I’ve found it really helpful for getting my hand moving and not worrying about the quality!
  • I LOVE these paper bag head people they are amazing. I think people forget that the pretty art they see online and in animated features was born from “the ugly art” you don’t see the behind the scenes of the creative geniuses that came up with the concepts “ugly art” is the best.

This may not make much sense, but allowing myself to create ugly art has resulted in me creating a lot of my best pieces. You'd be surprised how much shame and self-consciousness can get in the way of creating a good piece. Either because the stress and frustration disrupts your flow or because you threw away a potentially amazing drawing that was either completely fixable or was simply ugly because it was not yet complete. Some of my favorite drawings in my sketchbook right now had some really ugly moments while I was working on it. Almost gave up on them a few times. But I told myself "it doesnt matter if it's ugly" and pushed through, only for the final piece to be beautiful. Sure, I have a few pieces that stayed ugly, but that's just a natural part of growing as an artist.

I love this!! It can be really discouraging to see all the pretty perfect sketchbooks online but literally it doesn't matter as long as you enjoy what you create <3 I learn so much from all the "ugly" art I make I love it :)

oh my goodness, this was my internal dialogue with myself the past years! thanks for this video, it helped me process what ive been thinking and eased my anxieties about my art. it's so good for ur brain to do this. loved it!

Do y’all guys just stop drawing for a long time and don’t even bother to study but then there’s suddenly that ONE day you get the urge to create and everything you do gets surprisingly pretty and it feels like your art skills just leveled up out of nowhere and now you draw a little better and your confidence as an artist raised a bit but that day never repeat until it does…!!! *dies from not breathing*

As someone who gets paralyzed by the idea of making a perfect painting and at not knowing what my "style" is, this video is a perfect message to receive right now. Thank you for making this video because the message you're sharing is really important! <3
  • @Ratteni
Not every day is a "good" art day but I rather draw daily (even if it looks ugly lol) and improve than let my skills rust over time 😊

For a while, I’ve just been wanting to polish my art style and skills, but today i actually just did some doodles. It was great to just make a silly sketch of whatever I wanted onto the page. I didn’t want to leave empty space like I usually do (I have so many pages with just 1-2 small sketches), so I crammed them all and made it like a little puzzle. It helped a ton relieving stress I didn’t even know I had. I love doodling now.
  • @AnonBiscuit
Thank you for making this video because it's exactly what I need to hear. I've been stopping myself or making excuses not to make art for a long while now because I feel like I should be better than I currently am. I'm going to go make my ugly art now. ❤
  • @SilentTrip
I made the mistake in the past of showing my art to some "friends" who immediately went into criticizing that it isn't "realistic". Now I never want to show my art, even the good one, anymore
  • I usually try my best at drawing art but if I have art block I'll not try as hard and happily expect the worse... if I remember. :3
  • @lalajaeger8617
This is such helpful advice thanks so much! I just recently learned to let go of my art insecurities and have been “just going with it” but I still get stuck in my old ways from time to time
  • @trixxi3.221
recently theres this one thought that i get most of the time after i draw something and it really demotivates me, i always think to myself “whats the point of drawing all of this when no one would care about it that much and would probably only look at it for 3 seconds”
  • @LilacJream
Your 'ugly art' is truly adorable. Great tips!
  • @sillysepia
oh man. still fighting with this. I haven't animated in so long because I'm afraid that it'll turn out bad.
