Working at a Public Library - Circulation Process

Published 2023-03-26
How library books and materials are moved and shelved in a public library is an underappreciated logistics process that occurs everyday. Every public library has a hidden materials management system that is responsible for moving library materials between patrons and library branches. Learn how library holds work and how library staff fulfill those holds, and how the books are transported throughout the library system.

I explore firsthand all the steps involved in the library materials circulation process, from when a book is returned to the library to when it's checked out by a patron. Including the sorting, shelving, and delivery process library staff use to manage library materials.

Have you ever wondered how a library book ends up on the shelf or how a library hold moves through the library system? Whether you're a regular library user or just curious about how public libraries work, this video will give you a fascinating look into the inner workings of a library.
