With only 699 produced in 2008-2009, the Honda S2000 Club Racer is easily the most desirable S2000 model in the US. Designed as an autocross and track day special, the CR has a host of aerodynamics, chassis/suspension and interior improvements. But is the driving experience of the CR really greater than the sum of its parts? That's the question I aim to answer in this long awaited review of Jason's 147k mile example.

"But is it a better S2000... Sometimes I don't even know what that means..." - best line ever.

The quicker steering ratio is one of my favorite things about this car! It's actually significantly quicker, even compared to the AP1. I love it!
  • I love my CR. The "base" S2K was such a great driver that there wasn't much Honda could do from a factory perspective to improve. Mine's a Delete, which removes another 50-pounds from dropping the radio/AC. Definitely an experience, especially on the roads out near Pescadero.

The CR was engineered to be an OEM light weight weekend track car. If an individual doesn't need a dedicated track car then a standard S2K is a good platform to play "car dress up" with.

Smoothness of the motor comes from the hondata tune. I know, I have it on my CR. It was tuned by church automotive. Whenever i have to flash back to SMOG the car, the buttery smoothness is gone until i flash her back to the tune.

hey! i'm hunting for a car with a 5k-10k budget. doesn't need to be too quick but i want to have fun driving it. considering ~2000 miata, rsx, 06-07ish civic si and the prelude sh, do you have input on this? im concerned the miata is a little underpowered out of the bunch but it's definitely affordable and certainly looks like fun

Beautiful CR. Luckily these motors will go 200-300k miles. Who did you have tune your flashpro? I had Gernby perform my etune and it's quite smooth and powerful as well. I'd say the only thing that the CR has over any 06+ model is the quicker steering rack; all else can be upgraded pretty easily.

Why do CR’s have that weird ringing sound when you rev the engine/it’s under load? You can hear it really loudly in the intro
  • @aaguirre123
Oh yeah most definitely. It’s about 0.0000001 second faster.
