To think Jake didn’t receive even a nomination for his performance is just further proof how pointless an Oscar really is.

Absolutely love this film. Gyllenhaal manages to make Bloom, despicable, narcissistic and show absolute zero empathy, but also unintentionally hilarious at times. When he's badgering people for a job, or his motivational speeches to his colleagues (and eventually his new employees) just make me chuckle. I can't put my finger on it?! He's one of those characters I cannot imagine any other actor adopting the role...

It's a testament to either the acting or the editing, that I don't ever remember Lou Bloom blinking during his scenes or dialogue. Like he's an animal constantly on the prowl. Real chilling performance.

I rewatched this movie with a friend one time, and he waited for the inevitable goodfellas-helicopter-moment for the last forty minutes straight. His "WAIT HE JUST SERIOUSLY GOT AWAY WITH IT?" was the highlight of the evening.

I still can’t believe how many people haven’t seen this masterpiece of a film. I saw it in theaters on opening night and it was one of the best risks I’ve ever took. My friend was convinced the movie was going to suck for some reason but I can’t tell you how dumb he felt after watching it.
  • When people talk about “literally me” movies this one often gets passed over. I think it’s the best example of a broken human not only surviving in society but thriving.

This movie and Jake Gyllenhaal in it are chilling. Someone like Lou Bloom certainly exists out there. Most frightening horror outside of a horror movie.
  • Hats off to Jake for capturing the distilled essence of soulless corporate America in a single drop. His performance is both captivating and repulsive all at once.
  • @KayButtonJay
One of the best films of the 2010s. It’s criminally how under-awarded it was

Nightcrawler is not just a depiction of the sociopathic achievement of the American Dream, but also how we feed that sociopath through our consumer demands. We mold the monster.
  • When I saw this movie, I immediately thought of Robert DeNiro’s performance in Taxi Driver. Definitely one of the best individual performances of that year in Cinema.

I watched this film only once yet it leaves a hollowing mark. I felt empty and baffled by how this is the society we live in. And it really benefits every Lou out there. Every "Business Owners", "Life Coach", or "Self Starters" who only gained their successes from stepping on others and shoved them away. The media that praises those successes without revealing the method.

I've watched this movie several times. It's so amazingly good. Everything about the movie making process is done to the highest degree. The cinematography, the editing, the sound track, the mixing, the lighting, the color. Almost every scene is at night and yet the subject is clear without looking overlit. And then the performances. Jake Gyllenhaal is so good. Just a masterpiece of a movie.

This movie is the American Psycho for the 2010s
  • "On TV it looks so real." We consume the image and the image consumes us, purely transactional.
  • @stebolavirus
Lou Bloom seems like the modern version of Daniel Plainview in There Will Be Blood - would be interesting to see a comparison of the two.
  • @sifatshams1113
I read the perfect description of this film a few days ago: Taxi Driver meets Network (both 1976).
  • Jake Gyllenhaal was also incredible in Prisoners. And could you do a video on Lord Shen?
  • This film is a modern, better , Taxi Driver. And it is criminal that more people don't realize that
  • @larzkruber822
I liked the part of the movie where one reporter asked if they could show this Nina answered that the lawyer sayed it would be fine The one reporter then stated: "I mean morally!"
