The Honda S2000 was a revelation for the drop-top sports coupe and became one of the most popular JDM sports cars in the modern era. But while they once were affordable, S2000s are now appreciating at a rate that is quickly outpacing the pocketbook of the average enthusiast.

I bought mine 12 years ago. AP1 one of my dream cars. I still own and love it. I will take mine to my grave.
  • Even though the price is sky high, it still feels like a hidden gem

At this point every JDM enthusiast car will be beyond our reach

Bought my AP2 in 2016 with 75k miles for $12.5k. Its currently at 82k miles. It went from my dream car - to a great investment.

I remember I almost traded my single turbo mkiv for one like 15 years ago

My dream car is now under my ownership. I couldn’t be any happier!
  • I feel bad, since I think when the time I can actually afford a car comes out, all these S2K's and NSX's are gonna be as expensive as a new C8 Corvette.

I saw this auction go down n had a feeling that everything was about to go up. So I decided to borrow 6k from my brother he helped me get a gpw ap2 with 72k miles from Washington for a birthday present drove her back to California. Still hasn't settle in that I own my dream car now.!❤

My guy. Here's the issue that I have. While I like your video of why you can't afford a Skyline NSX etc, your last video is literally titled: Buy these JDM cars now before it's TOO LATE. This completely goes against everything I thought you stood against about some cars getting so expensive, now you're contributing to the problem. If shit keeps going like the way it is with Doug Demuro, Hagerty and Magnus Walker, Fitment Industries, Donut Media and with the aid of social media like Facebook and Instagram, all of these cars including any non performance variants of the same car or some cars in general are going to get so expensive that the average person may as well not drive. Shit used to be so affordable, everything's getting more expensive nowadays, and we certainly really don't need anymore cars to go up stupidly now. Also I don't understand why people buy cars as an investment. Buy a car because you love it not because you want to make money off it in the future. Also makes me laugh when people say, 'appreciating asset Lol. Assets is something that put money in your pocket every month. Cars don't do that. Its a liability. I like your videos man. You do extensive research and I like the way you explain things and your style of presenting but please don't contribute to the madness man. And please DO NOT make anything on German cars. That's literally the last thing we need and some are getting stupidly expensive already.

It's pretty crazy how the market has turned on the s2000 so quickly. Sure wished I would've picked up a low mileage example 5+ years ago. I was pretty lucky to pick one up right as the pandemic was kicking into overdrive and scored a 88k 04 for under 17k. Almost a year later and I'm seeing high mileage, 125k+, ap1's going for well over $20k. I don't think I could get the $30k yet, but I'm glad to have such an awesome car parked in my garage.

S2000 owner here. After watching your GTR and Supra videos, I was afraid this might come soon and sure enough it did. I bought my 2002 AP1 with 92500 miles in 2010 for $11000. 11 years later, it has 135000 miles (though it's my only car, I don't drive much). With the way the prices are going, I can probably sell it now and still make money... but I'd rather not. This was a great, true enthusiast's car that could be had for cheap but sadly no longer. For years, I've been trying to get my friend to get one and he almost pulled the trigger a few times (even got his wife's permission)... unfortunately, after all the years of waiting, the ship's sailed with the price being like this now. Some S owners are happy about the price appreciation... but I'm not in that camp. I had always planned on getting another S (newer and lower mileage) after I was done with my current one. Looks like that's not going to be feasible or sensible now.
