"Panis Angelicus" is from the hymn Sacris solemniis written by Saint Thomas Aquinas. "Panis Angelicus" is often treated as a separate hymn and set to music.

Latin Text

Panis Angelicus fit panis hominum
Dat panis coelicus figuris terminum
O res mirabilis!

Manducat Dominum
Pauper, pauper, servus et humilis
Pauper, pauper, servus et humilis

English Translation

The angel's bread becomes the bread of men
The heavenly bread ends all symbols
Oh, miraculous thing! The body of the Lord will nourish
The poor, poor, and humble servant
The poor, poor, and humble servant

There will never be anyone to compare to him. I just wish I could have seen him. He is the greatest ever.

Gorgeous. Luciano Pavarotti is my all time favourite tenor. A voice as warm as the Italian sunshine on a field of sunflowers. Gone but not forgotten. Thanks for posting this gem from 1978.
  • As Dimitry hvorosvisky said and I am quoting here" he was naturally a singer" RIP

Oh if only I'd seen him before I left in 1979. Ah well , I've got every recording he ever made. I love the Googled version I have of his father and him singing this in the Modena Cathedral. And I'm not even a RC!
