  • Great song. Great film. Edit: Cannot thank you enough for this MV. 1:24 is awesome. The way the climax of the chorus is picked up by the visuals of the stranded crew of the Essex in a manner almost like that of Washington Crossing the Delaware. 2:44 is glorious, displaying the majesty of the Essex with her sails proudly flying in the wind and her crew. They are "men of [their] God" and "brothers at sea". A perfect background for the following verse that would take us to; 2:56 which is a heart wrenching and utterly beautiful transition, both as a hard cut in beat with the song and as a sharp contrast from the previous lines of glory and prosperity, showing the dying Matthew Joy and his almost exposed ribs calling back to the bodies on the Raft of the Medusa, perhaps symbolizing the crew as a whole. 3:11 is also a pretty nice cut where the blur shifts in harmony with the thought of "hunger pangs" however the next cut at 3:15 seems a little redundant. 3:24 shows a sweet little fade in transition (very nice) of a crew member desperately catching little drops of freshwater, a striking visual to accompany the lyrics. The final scene at 3:29 is just brilliant. It is a beautiful film to begin with and having come from the same novel as Rusty's song, it is no wonder that they seem almost made for each other. Again, thanks for the pleasure of watching it.
