Him being influenced by Akira was so unexpected but simultaneously makes so much sense in retrospect.

I thought that he'd mention Life of Brian. "He's not the Kwisatz Haderach, he's a very naughty boy."

Everyone loves Nolan and I do too but Villanueve is my GOAT sci fi director.

Just watched Dune 2 and man it was absolutely incredible, one of the best movies I have seen in a long time. The cinematography was so good, the entire movie and set pieces were all beautifully shot, the story, action, epic Hans Zimmer soundtrack, everything was top notch. Denis Villeneuve truly one of the best directors today. The cast was great, Timothée Chalamet gave the performance of a lifetime and stole the show as Paul Atreides. A truly worthy sequel. So excited for Part 3.
  • the last influence that Denis mentions is a brilliant and incomparable plot twist that leaves me awestruck.

Hearing Denis reference Chuck Jones, one of my favorite cartoon creators from not only Roadrunner which he mentioned but also Tom and Jerry and the Grinch, just made my day. Makes me appreciate Denis even more

Always cool to listen to a bright artist discuss his inspirations

Influences are internalized and later appear unannounced in one’s work. When you consciously try to shoehorn an influence into your work, it comes off as hokey. Denis is truly a special director and screenwriter.

I loved how the deep dive into the thinking process of such a genius, what a great thinker in addition to the best director working today.

So cool that Denis referenced Akira. Not only is that film a visual masterpiece, but there is a subtext of religion that is very similar to Paul’s arc.
