Remember in Super Smash when you had to complete certain criteria to face a hidden character. The reward you would feel just accomplishing the steps, which weren’t too bad or long, and then going toe to toe with the comp to unlock the character. I miss those days.

I had many people saying "oh it's free" when I pointed out how insane they are. But the worst thing I just realized is that if you wanted to play with local friends, you're going to have to work yourself to the bone just to make sure your friends can play the characters they wanted. At least in Smash bros playing with friends still worked towards unlocking characters!

This is 100% by design. It is more profitable to push out a half-baked game, load it with monetization, and then kill it because of "unpopularity" than a product that lasts years.

2-5 hours per character maximum for it to be fun for me. Anything higher than that loses my interest instantly simply because I'm a grown up and I have a life.

I cannot describe how much I despise progression locked exclusively behind daily “tasks”.
The way it forces you to play a specific way that you don’t want to, like playing a different character, is so infuriating.

If I’m not having fun, why am I playing the game?
