  • I say quit the ebay store. We had no idea until watching this. Close up "shop" and start listing on Market Place. No fees, No hidden fees. I'm so sorry you lost all that $$$ That's terrible. My husband and I love watching your videos. Thank you for being 💯 honest, respectful and clean. God bless you. Keep doing a great job!❤ from Daisy, Arkansas
  • There was a time when selling on eBay was worth it. Those times are long gone.
  • I gave up on Ebay long ago. I sell on local garage sale sites on Facebook. Free and no shipping!

When I sell on eBay, I don't auction unless it's a high demand item. I set a fixed price that includes what I will lose on fees, materials, and shipping materials. I consider all that when I source products. If I can't sell the item for at least three to four times the buying price, then it just isn't worth the effort and expense. I also might forgo an item if it is heavy or odd sized due to shipping expense. Finding the sweet spot for what an item can bring and what you invest in it is a skill that comes with experience with your clientele. You get so you know what they snap up and what they don't and what the balance is between the value of your time and what they will pay.

I've been saying this for a few years now; the majority of YouTube creators who are also eBay sellers, make the majority of their money from the VIDEOS they create ABOUT reselling than actual reselling. Those who DO have successful eBay stores are those who have HUGH followings on YouTube. They have a 'built in loyal customer' in their YouTube subscribers. The way to make money online is to have something unique or multiple, overlapping income streams. eBay is an 'okay' side gig, but unless you can get the items for free or next to free, its just a way to make some pocket money. My wife and I have an eBay store. We sell mostly clothing, our own personal items we no longer use and merchandise we get on deep clearance. We're still watching your videos despite whatever the heck YouTube's algorithm is doing to your channel. We really enjoy watching and appreciate you (and Owen).
  • You can also try renting a space at flea markets and stuff. That usually only cost you a small booth fee or whatever, plus you don’t have to buy anything to ship the items people just come to you and buy it at your booth or whatever you got going on.
  • Read the fine print and then if they take 40% commission and fees, don’t start at $.99. Try to figure how much the extra costs are and maybe list a “Buy Now” auction or two
  • Can you sell it on market place ???? Just a thought, make the buyer pay for shipping, there has to be a better way. Good luck !!!!!!!!

I gave up on eBay a long time ago. Their policies and procedures were indiscriminate, and in my case, not fair. I was penalized for less than honest buyers/sellers. I don’t sell, and very rarely buy (once in the last three years).

Hi Tyler. I have been selling on eBay for over 20 years and still do. I experience nothing like you have seen. They hit you for about 13% in fees and give you 250 free listings per month. Maybe you are looking at the totals including tax and shipping. eBay shows your order total with those included but then subtracts them before they pay you. It makes it look like you are paying huge fees but taxes and shipping aren’t the real value of your sale. Also the usps gives free boxes for priority shipping which is all I use. Maybe add up you actual sale prices before the shipping and tax and I think you will see that they really don’t hit you very hard. Hope that this might help you. Love your channel.

You just need to sell things with a set price. As long as you have enough storage you can double your money over the auction sales. You need to target potential collectors of your collection. Fair enough a fishing lure may sell for 5 dollars at auction, but you can ask $10 buy now and with the amount of subscribers you have as well as Facebook you are almost definitely going to get it eventually. Also you have to speculate to accumulate. It may be worth investing in a small gift to go with every sale. Something like a badge or bookmark with a friendly on or something. That way you may be able to turn your fans into the collectors you need.

So refreshing hearing the truth. More resellers need to see this video.
  • I sell on Ebay, I don't have a store though, Fees take 30 percent. So if i find something I pay 5 dollars for I consider I found it for 6.50 and I triple that to list and if I have to reduce I go down from there until I break even . Certain categories they charge more fees, your seller rating needs to be high also to not have higher fees. Once you figure it out, you can make good money .
  • I have a lot of motorcycle helmets and for a while I had a streak going selling them. This was on Marketplace. I had the buyer pay the shipping costs too. Then I had injured myself breaking my wrist so am now taking a break. When you sell a certain amount in think it 3,000 worth then Facebook wants all your tax information so they can send to govt amount you sold so you would pay taxes on it! Annoys me as I’m selling these way less than I bought these helmets so they are taxing me twice! Grrrr. Time to throw cases of tea in the Boston harbor! I personally think you could apply to obtain grants to cover your expenses as you clean up the waterways! Cheers! 🎉
  • @grimacres
Our auction house stopped selling on Ebay for the exact reasons you stated. It's just not worth it.
  • @KatTheNekox3
I had no idea it worked like that. And here I was happy for ya that ya sold so much of your stuff. Man.
  • I quit selling on there a long time ago because of all the fees. It just wasn’t worth my time. Made more doing it on marketplace and Craigslist. The down side to that is all the ones that never show up.
