This is my deer rifle that I used to get my very first ever (!) deer on November 19th of this year.
I'm showing how to do the basic breakdown used for cleaning, instead of the detailed breakdown, since the detailed breakdown shouldn't be necessary for normal cleaning and maintenance.
This is NOT the Cowboy model of the 1894, but the standard model with the 20" round barrel, which appears to have been discontinued in the .45 Colt caliber.

  • Glad to have been of help. I'll answer any question I possibly can. I love this rifle.
  • I like how the 1894 Bolt is part of the receiver, looks cool seeing the Bolt sliding back.

Thank you. Much more simple than I imagined.

The first thing you should have done before brushing, was run 3 wet patches with solvent through to get things started.  Then use the brush, also wet with solvent and scrub as you are doing, then 3-4 wet patches followed by dry patches.  Your not doing well with brushing a dry bore. I will also agree that Hoppes #9 is the best cleaner you can buy.  Forget all the new fancy stuff.  Hoppes has been tested against the others and out performs the rest for over all copper and lead removal.
