This Song has its beginning in 1797, written from haydn for the habsburgs as "Gott erhalte Franz den Kaiser" (god save emperor franz) and get its new text in 1841 from von Fallersleben as a kind of "unification song" for the first Germany after traumatising napoleonic wars. in 1922 it becomes the german anthem for the first time.

독일 역사를 통틀어 다루는 음악 영상에서 너무 과도하게 나치 영상자료만 패싱하여 공백을 두는 것이 목적은 이해가 되어도 온전한 역사 흐름 표현에 있어서도 부적절하다 생각되었는데 이 영상은 독일 근현대사의 모든 굴곡을 차등없이 묘사하여 보다 더 역사의 변화가 와닿도록 연출한 점이 크게 마음에 듭니다.
