Our octopus's curiosity has gotten him trapped in a cave in our Christmas special! The only way out is to slide the door up and escape from underneath.

We'd like to take a moment to wish you all a very Merry Christmas. Thank you for joining us on our journey to learn more about this fascinating animal. It excites us so much to see that there are other people out there that are as amazed by octopuses as we are. We look forward to another wonderful year with all of you! Merry Christmas, and stay safe!

  • A number of years ago, I was camping & fishing at the Salt Point State Park on the north coast of California. One night, there was an unusually high tide and when the tide had receded, we went down to do some fishing off of the rocks. As I was climbing down the rocks to fish, I noticed an octopus in a small tidal pool that was right up next to the cliffs & quite a distance to the ocean, from the previous nights very high tide. He was a little smaller than the one here in this video. So, I picked him up & carried him down to the water's edge & let him slide off of my arm into the water. I remained there, squatting where I had released it, to watch it swim away. It moved off about 20 feet, paused then came back up to the place I was & reached up with on tentacle & wrapped it lightly around my wrist. We sat there like that for a good 30 seconds or so & then it released & disappeared into the depths. It was an amazing moment that I will always treasure, as I am positive it was thanking me. Thanks for all of the videos you put out. They're always fun to watch. Their intelligence is astounding to behold... :)

The octopus must've been curious with the Christmas decorations in his tank.

Santa must need a sit down after filling the stockings in that lab.

Wow they are so intelligent! Octopuses always manage to find a way to get to where they want to go. This one really loves the Christmas baubles, that's beautiful how you guys have done the tank up with trees and Christmas decorations. Merry Christmas to everyone and to the octopuses!

I would go bonkers if I got locked in a little place like that. He/she seemed to like the decorations. I hope the octopuses are kept in tanks with things that provide them with some interactive things to do.
