Deafblind children and adults are often invisible. They are often mistaken as emotionally or intellectually challenged. In some rural parts of India, they are even branded as a curse from the gods.

Sense India has been working with deafblind people in India, like Sneha, since 1997.

Working in 23 states through a network of 57 partner NGOs, it affects the lives of more than 71,500 deafblind people, taking them from isolation and neglect to communication, interaction, self-esteem and self-sufficiency.

Sense helps families stay together by giving them skills to communicate, helps society and families recognise that deafblind children and young adults are much more than their disabilities and when given access to the right resources, can be contributing members of society and the economy.

Sense seeks to break taboos and ignorance around deafblindness and wants to reach out to many more of the half a million deafblind population in India.

God bless the Catholic Sisters who take care of so many disabled children in India. I don't know of any other religion who does what they do. Thank you for your sacrifice, dear Nuns!
  • Imagine living in a place with darkness and silence where you can probably only make different sound in your head and all you know is touch and smell and not even an image can appear.
