Some other director would have never spoken about this the way you just did. I thought I was the only one who dealt issues like that. Big props to you for this.
  • 'As a fellow director it's refreshing to see someone use their setbacks as a way to educate others. I respect your content and hope for more success from you. Chin up dude and stay constructive.' - John Clay

Crazy suggestion: give the footage to your followers for an edit competition, then see who comes up with a better story in the edit. Sometimes we are in problems that we can't see solutions to, but others around us might find one. I am highly interested in editing this for free.99

I've had some terrible stories as well. My favorite one is when my client got to the jail in the middle of the editing process and asked me to send the money back and forget about the music video. I'm gonna collect some interesting moments and share them one day on my channel. Experience and wisdom are everything. Thanks for the video
  • @Prodbywalkz
shoulda gave us a step by step what you would've done different, I think that would've helped alot
  • @Jmccabe1111
I have a lot of respect for someone that owns their mistakes. Huge respect man.
  • @ItsMeSoto
Love the realness bro. Not everyone would admit a failure & how you explained that was super insightful & respectable 🤝 good work
  • @sdh1817
Keep your head up man! We’ve all been there. Try to get back to it in a while and your view on it will have significantly changed. Then try to see what other story is hiding in there and what you might need to add (shooting wise) to make it work. We always have the saying: a film is made 3 times, first in writing, then in shoot and finally in edit. Goodluck!
  • @doobz5655
Very honest baring your soul ….we all learn from this type of experience . Its never a waste and remember it is better to have tried and failed than to have failed to try !
  • Your openness to share this is truly going to help so many people. Thank you so much! 🙏🏽
  • @dna8269
Had one of my biggest shoots end up this way in the last year and felt like it was all my fault and it really hit my confidence. Really helps to hear an experienced shooter talk about how a big project getting scrapped after the fact because it didn't pan out as expected. Appreciate you YC
  • @kBabooda
You’re a real one bro. Social media is engineered to show us the sparkle and shine and yet, you’re open to show us your L’s. Respect bro, keep up the great content.
  • @fiferlogic
I learned so much from this video. No so much the technical aspect (a lot of it is over my head) but the fact that so much was learned and experienced in a project that some would consider (incorrectly) a failure. Reminds me that perfection is not the goal, PROGRESS is the goal.
  • @raynaudier8622
Glad to hear you emphasize the importance of the story itself, above all; the importance of adequate preparation; what an experienced specialized lighting & grip team brings; & the importance of safety on set. Your honesty here will keep someone else from "just winging it"😆😆.
  • @DylColeman
Really appreciate the share. When creatives talk about their “failures” in the way that you do here, it’s refreshing because it’s something we all go through. Way to look on the bright side and grow, bro. Thanks! 🙏🏾 Also best movie of the year so far is Swan Song for me :) But I haven’t seen Everything Everywhere All at Once yet so…
  • @DameDoloFilms
Hey bro I appreciate your honesty on your project. It’s refreshing to hear this from guys like you and not pretend we don’t experience taking L’s. I sure have lol. Would love to see you direct more narrative music videos as well. Stay grinding my G 💯
  • @mpell66
Fascinating to hear, both on the aspects that were valuable and where the project didn't meet expectations and why not. And also what did really work. Great to get a sense of what is involved in a project like this, and to see plenty of footage of the production process. Appreciate the transparent sharing of how it felt to decide to shelve the project. I found watching this video very interesting and helpful.
  • @EugeneMaynard
Your honesty as into the complications of production as well pre and post along with the mistakes that we all make at one time another through the path of our careers was refreshing to hear! Respect! 👍🏾🙏🏾
  • @mjgfromdallas
Such a great example that story is EVERYTHING. You can have all the great gear, team, and resources but if the story doesn't make sense or isn't impactful, nothing else matters. Thank you for sharing this to helps others learn about storytelling.
  • @henryhodge2445
I've had a few horror stories. One in particular is when I trusted the wrong crew members who didn't do a great job & the client had hidden expectation that weren't communicated that was revealed after shooting. The client didn't pay the remaining amount & the video never made it out of post. In the end I take accountability of trusting people not right for the project & making sure that the client signs off on everything, even the storybaord (we did have a normal contract). Especially when it comes to musicians, you never know, and when it rains it pours with complications.
