What is the most overlooked hot hatch platform of all time? The Chevy Sonic might arguably be one of the contenders. With its 1.4 turbocharged 4 cylinder engine the Chevy Sonic RS was one weird decision by Chevorlet. From being in the fourth transformers movie to a rental car, the Sonic was a jack of all trades. ZZperformance with their engineering skills developed a big turbo upgrade for the Chevy Sonic - and honestly I can't even describe it... but I can show you. So let's for a drive and take a rip in a 300HP Chevy Sonic!

  • It's not that I don't like the paint job/wrap, but a nice solid sleeper color would be 10/10 IMO.
  • @stuffdo_er
For me, I think the second gen Honda Fit definitely should have gotten a 200 hp Si variant.
  • I'm a Chevy fan and you're blowing my mind with all these Chevy sleepers that I never knew about thanks for this content
  • My favorite part about the sonic is the weird gauge cluster. It reminds me of a motorcycle for some reason. Idk why, but I really dig these things.

The sonic was the first car I bought with my own money and I still have it and now are working on turning it into a sleeper. It was always such a fun car to drive anyways but now because of ZZP i get to carry on with my first car and turn it into something a million times better.
  • The Regal GS (Opel/Vauxhall/Holden Insignia) definitely got over looked and is a great enthusiast car. Available with manual, and available with awd

I always wondered if these non-performance Chevys had any potential, and this is a nice answer to that. 300 is a great number for a small commuter car. Lots of fun could be had

Omg the timing of this video is incredible! 😂 My best friend has never been into cars but just got a 2018 Chevy sonic RS and decided he wants to build it as his first project car. Well today he did his first mod. Had to send him this video and now he knows about ZZP so this should be fun. Thank you for showing off builds on all sorts of cars. Not the same 10 popular models. Keep up the great content 🖤😁
  • Between this and that Pontiac Vibe from a bit ago, these spicy side-quest builds are so much fun
  • Having owned a Sonic hatchback I always loved how agile it was. It had all the bases covered for being a fiesta ST-esque competitor, but there was so little aftermarket it kind of killed any chance of tuning it :(
  • Working for Chevrolet I always saw the Sonic with so much potential. I've waited and I'm glad to see one actually created.

What you described is what I loved about my Supercharged Cobalt SS. While it had less HP than the ZZP Sonic, it was still fun to get on it and rip through the gears…and still get decent gas mileage. Also glad to see ZZP is still around and doing great things. They were a huge part of the Cobalt forums back then and always had top notch products and service. Someday I want to own a boosted EcoTech again.

glad us 1.4t guys are getting some more love. love to see more weird stuff like our cars.

1:28 mazdaspeed protege. Incredibly fun car to drive. Best first car I could've asked for.
  • @A713
Please keep up these awesome unorthodox builds🙏🏼 I love the channel for that reason. It’s so cool to see so many different things being modified besides what your normally seeing. Keep it up man👏🏼

I love how 300 wheel HP from FWD isn't "big horsepower" any more; in the 90's in the UK 300HP to the rear of an S13 or an E36 was going some, to the front of an RS Turbo or a Renault 5 it was insane. Computers may have ruined some things in modern times but they've certainly made cars extremely interesting...Did you American lovelies ever get the Suzuki Swift GTi? Not a Turbo but a 1300 that made ~100HP that felt like a lot more. Also there is the 400 series Volvo turbos, I had a 460 Turbo with enough dumphwhoosh to scare off motors with many times the £ investment back in the olden days. Thanks for the fantastic channel dude!
