2008 was a magical year for Bama fans. If you been a Alabama as long as I have 60+ years, you could tell good things were coming in 2007. Roll Tide!
  • In high school 1968 I was an Alabama fan living in Maryland, I read everything I could about the team and Bear Bryant......playing football, my high school colors were almost the same as Alabama, the only difference was a small black stripe on the shoulder pads.....when I moved to Alabama in 1985 it was a dream come true...ROLL TIDE...!!!!

The amount of talent on this team was insane. The likes of Jones, Ingram, Hightower... good lord.
  • @that_preztel.
Somewhat ironically, this game was also the catalyst in starting the Dabo Swinney era at Clemson.
  • 10 years later... 5 National Titles, 4 CFP appearances, with 2 titles won 1 loss and a loss in Semifinals to Ohio state. Ten consecutive 10+ win seasons, 2 Heisman trophy winners and over 70 players drafted into the NFL, 15 of which were 1st round picks!! Roll Tide, Roll!!

Julio Jones is playing in the stadium that he would later on blow the top off in the last game ever played in the Georgia Dome.

I remember watching this game on TV, and I knew then that this was the beginning of something big. I tend to call this game the "Bama Is Back" game.
  • @webinator9715
CFP should be renamed the Alabama Invitational Tournament.
  • @JB88-
I remember this like it was yesterday. One of my favorite quotes during this game was "Offense, Defense, and Special Teams. Complete domination by Alabama"
  • @enazmisey5963
“Favorites over alabama” is not a phrase often heard anymore.
  • @BeRevengeful
I remember watching this live with my dad. I was about 10 and didn't really get how monumental this game was but will never forget that memory. ROLL TIDE

The game that started Bama-Clemson rivalry
  • It saddens me, the lack of knowledge of when Alabama first dynasty was. Bear Bryant was not the first coach at Alabama to lead a dynasty. He was brought in for the same reason as saban, to revive a once historically great football program. Alabama's first dynasty came at the hands of that "denny" guy the stadium was named after. George Denny was an athletic director for Alabama in the 1920s. He realized the rest of the country was being captivated by this interestingly tough sport called football. He hired a man named Frank Thomas (not the baseball player) to be the head coach and Thomas went on to win multiple national titles in his fairly short tenure at Alabama. Before Denny and Thomas, football was a relatively unknown sport in the south. If I'm remembering my history correctly, Alabama went to the rose bowl in the 20s as a heavy underdog to USC and bama won in dramatic fashion. The 40s and 50s didn't do Alabama any favors as they had multiple losing seasons and entire seasons were cancelled due to ww2. In 1957 Alabama was particularly bad. Bad enough that they gave a man named bear Bryant a call and boy, did he answer. Bear Bryant retired in 80 or 81 after winning 6 national titles. The 80s were not good to Alabama on a national scale, though some will say that Bryant a legacy drove to a coye of 10 win seasons. They did again reach the top of the college football mountain in 92 under coach Stallings but if one championship is a dynasty then every champion of every sport every year is a dynasty. A dynasty is not being "pretty good" for a few years. A dynasty is winning titles. Not conference titles. National titles. Plural. What makes the saban dynasty unique is that is lasted for 10 years now. For the last 10 years Alabama has 5 national titles. That means that the other 128 teams in college football have 5 tiles in that same time. One team has taken half the championships over the last decade. THAT is a dynasty. Clemson winning one title is NOT a dynasty. Ohio State winning one title is NOT a dynasty. And to all that are just waiting for saban to retire so their team has a chance again, ROLL TIDE ROLL!!!
  • You could argue this was the game that produced Clemson's great historical run too since this thrashing led to Tommy Bowden being fired in the middle of the season, where he was replaced by Dabo Swinney.
