The design is a neoclassical interpretation of the Roman Forum. Featuring goddess Roma, Il pensiero (The Thought), Victor Emmanuel II (first king of a unified Italy), Quadriga dell'Unità (goddess Victoria riding the chariot of gods and heroes), Fontana dell'Adriatico (Fountains of the Adriatic and Tyrrhenian seas), Winged Victory, Winged Lions, Corinthian columns and the cities of Italy.
Designed by Giuseppe Sacconi, sculptures by Leonardo Bistolfi and Angelo Zanelli, Emilio Quadrelli and Pietro Canonica, and completed in 1935.
