  • Ruffian was my favorite horse of all time... I refuse to watch the match race... my heart broke that day when she broke down... I saw her run at Saratoga..never was a name more appropriate for a horse's personality ...she refused to let a Horse Pass her even in her workouts.... I have no doubt she beats Foolish Pleasure had she not broken down... that was the day I learned how heartbreaking horse racing can be ...she was one of a kind
  • She even tried to continue cantering and trotting on to try to win, very dedicated.

I’ll never concede there was ever a horse as great as Secretariat, but Ruffian sure as hell belongs in the conversation!

Ruffian was the most beautiful horse, running or standing still. I don't know where all that power came from, but she certainly knew how to fly! Huge loss.
  • A very remarkable horse no one will forget! She is a legend such a sad loss.

According to The Bloodhorse Magazine "100 Top U.S. Racehorses of the XX Century List" Ruffian (April 17, 1972 - July 7, 1975) is ranked in number 35 position. 11 starts: 10 victories (1 DNF) and U.S. $ 313.428 earned. Undefeated American Champion Two Year-old Filly in 1974, Undefeated American Three Year-old Filly in 1975, Post Mortem Eclipse Award for Outstanding Three Year-old Filly in 1976 and inducted to The National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame in 1976. Magnificent!! We will never forget her.

If you look at her pedigree, that's what really caused her downfall. It was all in her breeding. Her mother Shenanigans broke 2 legs during her life, and ended up being euthanized. I believe her father broke down a few times, both of her parents were extremely fragile. Ruffian was a delicate filly because of this, so when the match race came along, she ran too hard, too fast, and that's what caused it. Her trainer loved her beyond words, Frank Whitely never wanted to run her...

"As God as my witness, she may even be better than Secretariat." – Lucien Laurin, trainer of Secretariat. Nothing else needs to be said.
  • Would have loved to hear the calls, she was beating some of the greatest mares of the decade. That was America's last match race. I'm so thankful Rachel Alexandra and Zenyatta's owners didn't fall into that bs hype. This is what everyone thinks of today when you say the word Match Race. It's too much to bare... the loss of her. God only knows how good she was. She was never asked.

Hey guys this video was made when i was 13/14 years old relax on the name calling. Its an old video and i was a kid in love with this horse. I didn't post the original audio because of the convener i used at the time. Theres no need to come in here now to whine about it when this was over 5 years ago.
  • She was the best in the history in my opinion she inspired me on making the best of me she never wanted to give up so i decided i wanted to be like her, a person that does not give up very easily it was a shame she failed but i still look up to the sky were she is now and i try my best every day😭
  • @cindywagner545
Thanks for these replays!!! Still LOVE to watch her run :)
  • I love this so much! This is absolutely amazing and I loved seeing all 11 races and all the little facts you put in between them
  • @suehart919
I love Ruffian. Too short a life. We can only imagine what more she could've done. There's been many great fillies, but she was The One.
  • @ericvause3437
I was watching the race she broke her leg in. It was horrible. R.I.P. TRUE CHAMPION!
  • I subscribed this is an awesome video thumbs up!! Excellent choice of music and lyrics! ❤ ✌
  • @marcmink2737
I'm greatly in admiration that you can find weekly 300 races to bet where your own handicapping spots public betting mistakes that offer you a sufficient return 27 times a day to overcome the take that comes out prior to paying bettors
  • Imagine if she had lived to go up against secretariat! She would have won the match race greatest racehorse ever. And btw if you watch the match closely you will see( and her trainer confirms this) ruffian was spooked by the bird that flew right in front of her!! Causing her to break down instantly. Ruffian the great! Forever.
