Should every logo be simple? In this video I'm oversimplifying famous logos. Starbucks, Nando's and Gorilla Glue. What will they look like?

  • Well, that was fun! Hope you enjoyed the video! Many don’t see the point or humour in this video so I’ll point it out: Not everything needs to be simplified. Simple is complicated. 😂

I legit like the simple gorilla face. Very fun experiment!

I like what you said about it being "hard to simplify" in the sense of, how do you bring a logo down to its simplest form without losing the essence of what it represents. That's hard to do well. Great lesson. 🙏
  • This video has taught me it's easier to overcomplicate than oversimplify. I think for us, it's easy to see it being done, but doing it is a different story. There's so much to consider, especially when you want to retain the identity.
  • Gorilla Glue went from a "manly-man's" industrial strength glue to a school kid's PVA real quick 😂
  • the real life of a designer, where one may struggle coming up with ideas,,,, truly unscripted. Love it😁
  • For the Starbucks logo I think one of the key points for the logo is the green and white wavy stripes in the logo
  • I really liked that you showed attempts without previous rehearsal, it's clear that work like this can't be done in five minutes... But it would have been more interesting if you considered the history and original message of the logos... In the case of Starbucks, it is a mermaid with two tails (representing the seduction of coffee)... I think that based on this premise, simplification could have another path, no? Congratulations for the always interesting and intelligent videos!

Your "masked" Starbucks looks like the Wicked Queen from Disney's Snow White...
  • I feel like the simplified trend started out bad by just taking all the personality out of a company, but it seems like everyone has gotten the hang of it and managed to still keep some uniqueness and recognizability in them. i.e. zerox=bad pringles=good.

I love how you leave the whole process of your random ideas in the video! Some people think we designers just whip out a brand new logo out of the Wonderlogoland 😅 great video as usual, and also! Can I get pinned?
  • @Maloma12
Love your frequent reference to the "gobble-dy things" -- they are called a "wattle". lol 🐓

Hello, Will! I am a huge fan! I am from Portugal and I loved watching your interpretation of the rooster. The heart is important, but if you google "galo de barcelos" you'll see that at the end is all about the shape. Please keep rocking!

This proves how logos are more than just a collection of elements. They're engrained in the minds of people as representations of brands and the elements which we believe are "extra" give character to the logos and also a recall factor. Not to forget, they are in the cultural Zeitgeist for years and years and simplifying them isnt that "simple".

I like what you intended to prove here from this video 🎉

your Starbucks logo reminded me of the queen from sleeping beauty looking at the mirror 👁👁
  • I actually like the nando's redesign the best of the three but I think that's because I'm way more used to the Starbucks and gorilla glue logos, so any changes to them seem weirder.
