Beauty in the eye of the colonizer (featuring Tolu Ojo-Williams) | The Social Saint Podcast

Published 2021-05-06
Is beauty subjective? Or could it be argued that those who meet a more objective standard of beauty have it easier in life? Studies suggest people who are white, thin, cis gendered and able bodied are more likely to be considered β€˜attractive’ and thus likely to find jobs easier, have access to more social capital, as well as potentially lighter sentencing if convicted of a crime. Join Rianne and Tolu as they discuss pretty privilege and the effects of racism, colourism and pigmentocracy on the western standard of beauty.
