A Master Diagnostic Technician Reviews the current generation Lexus LS500. Answers the most important question. Is this generation as good as the original?

So Should you buy a Lexus LS? We'll take a full tour of the Lexus LS today on a quest to see if the current generation lives up to the legend that is the Lexus LS400.

First we'll start with a drivetrain overview. Then we'll dive into a more consumer focused review of the Exterior and Interior of the LS500.

I've spent sometime driving this 2021 Lexus LS500 as a consumer to get a feel of the car to give you an honest opinon of it. While I liked a lot of things that it had to offer, There are some things that were not very good. I share some of those things in this video.

And one important thing I will share towards the end of the review is the reputation that seems to follow this generation LS of unreliability. That is simply unfounded and not true. The truth be told which is this generation LS is as reliable as the previous generations. Other factors might be the reason you decide not to buy one but from my experience working exclusively on Toyota\Lexus products I don't think the alleged unreliability of the Lexus LS500 should be a reason not to buy one.

I have a 1990 Lexus LS400, it has 258k miles and running amazingly.
  • I recently picked up a 2004 LS 430 with only 84,000 Miles on it. I tell you it’s a gem. It’s a pleasure to drive. The car is mint, inside and outside. I love the smoothness and quality in the older Lexus. Everything in my Lexus works.

Are you sure you are a technician? You are so natural, you are better than most of the car reviewers on youtube.
  • Thumbs up if you own LS430 and you also believe that’s the best LS ever produced by Lexus.
  • I never thought about the Lexus LS as a car to own, and I just agreed to watch the review. No other car company gets me on reliability, quality and dependability than Toyota and Lexus...they are not perfect but they have proven their worth time and time again...but om a pickup truck kinda guy...good job sir
  • I just hit 281,000 miles on my 2004 LS 430. V8 still smooth as butter. Transmission still shifts smooth. Uses no oil. Everything still works. At 75-80mph I still get 27 mph on premium fuel. Love the old school LS. The 500 should have got a v8.
  • The Mercedes depreciates like a lead ball falling , and after warranty expiration , would be a nightmare to keep , for me there's a no brainer , Lexus all the way.

What a great interior. Definitely a fantastic luxury car. Great design without being over complicated like some competitors.

I have the 2001 LS-430 of course a V8 the first one in my dealership...did not even test drive it. Just ordered it without even seeing it on the ground and touching it. I have now 158K miles, same service technician, same dealership, still looks like in the first day! I still have the same grin on my face any time I choose to drive this car. Amazing quality, look, luxury, power...all is still PERFECT! Will never sell it...!!! Mercedes S Klasse = car for people not very smart that mainly want to impress. Soon will realize it is a money pit and within 12-14 months will dispose of it! BMW 7 Series = car for very obnoxious individuals that drive idiotic, and believe there are no laws on the street that they have to obey. They all have very poor character and vane personality. This too is disposed off very soon after the purchase. Lexus - LS = car for rich people that are smart too and want not only luxury, power, elegance, prestige - but also QUALITY, RELIABILITY, DEPENDABILITY and DECENT PRICE! And believe me: In Europe I owned Mercedes and BMW and Audi and know what I say. Since in US...many years...I stuck to Lexus. The only European pony in my stable: Porsche!
  • I was shopping around for Grandpa LS400 and man the prices are crazy right now

AMD, your reviews are my favorite videos that you produce. Your take is much different from all of the car reviewers on YouTube. PLEASE do this for all Toyota/Lexus products. Looking forward for your reviews of the Toyota Venza, Toyota Corolla Cross as well as the new upcoming Lexus NX. Keep up the exemplary work. Happy holidays to you and yours!

Best luxury vehicle I've ever gotten. I've recently picked up a 2020 Lexus LS500, and it is the softest and nicest vehicle to take out on road trips or even a trip to the grocery store. I've gotten so many compliments on it as well.
  • Thank you for a great review. I drive a 2011 LS 460L-AWD. There is no “bad” LS! (Except for one that is/was poorly maintained.) When faced with the choice between a 430 and 460 I chose the 460 because of the timing belt versus timing chain difference. Each generation of LSs are great motor cars; each has its own “personality”!
  • Thank you AMD for another terrific review. I’m enjoying being one of your followers ever since I saw you in the YAA cast.
  • I was looking for 2018 LS500 and I hate the climate control via touchscreen. I prefer the knobs plus I wasn't a fan of V6 in a flagship. I got myself a low miles LS460 loaded. 😆
  • @HiddenWen
This car always turns my head every time I see it. It's rare, and it's gorgeous.
  • Earlier today, I went to look at an ES300h. Sadly, due to my height, I did not fit. However, I was shown an LS500 that fit like a glove! What a nice car. When the chip/auto shortage eases a bit, I might see if I can order one. I'm waiting to see how the 2022 LS500h reviews, so I've got a few months to think about things...

Good honest review backed by technical expertise. No fancy drone angles or pretentious clichés in order to get invited back for the next review 👍🏽
