The life of a sailor is often marked by periods of solitude...but THIS is something else completely. We're anchored at an uninhabited island in the Tuamotus of French Polynesia. And we're the ONLY boat here. We weren't really sure how long we would stay for...maybe a few days if a good weather window came to keep pushing east against the trades...but days turned into weeks, and before we knew it an entire month flew by without spotting another human. It's been YEARS since we've been this isolated...what would it be like to be this alone for an entire month? Would we go stir crazy? How would we stay entertained? Join us in this week's new episode and find out!

  • To be somewhere on earth, where there is absolutely no one else for miles and miles, must be an amazing experience

I enjoy being alone. Been married 64 years and fortunate my wife understands I like my alone time. No talking, no radio or TV, just me and myself is immensely satisfying. My alone time assist in making decisions and again very appreciative my wife understands.

I know I say this every week- but I adore Sierra! And I love the life you’re giving her. The opportunity to see such different parts of the world and my favorite, seeing and learning about all the wildlife. Her vocabulary has increased so much. I’ll keep watching just to see Sierra grow up! A sort of distant great-gramma! 😊 You’re both wonderful parents and partners. Thank you for this weekly peek into your world.

Moments/thoughts that jump out for me: Stillness before a storm = immediately think of the desert. America's "the ocean is a desert with it's life underground" and how the hair on my neck would go up in the stillness right before a Mistral in Sardegna. And Sierra's "Dad is so silly." got to love it. Thinking about alone time: Do you ever enjoy it so much that you stay away from social media? I once spent a month alone up on northern Vancouver Island. A few days before coming back, I saw someone coming down a trail and hid while they passed because I didn't want to break the spell. It's kinda like that perfect moment of meditation but maybe takes a little more work to get to. As always, love you guys. Hugs from Memphis (yuck) Tennessee!

Thanks for another great episode of "The Adventures Of Nugs The Navigator In French Polynesia". I love it when you have a Nug Cam segment, When my son was between the ages of four and nine I enjoyed seeing His reaction to new things. Watching children's unfiltered reactions helps me to see things in a whole new way.

I am a reef hobbyist for 8 years now and love having a small slice of this life in my living room (150 Gallons). I do not know a single hobbyist who would not want an octopus for thier saltwater aquarium, but they are super intelligent and make Houdini look like an amateur when it comes to escaping enclosures. So, it is not possible to house these animals in small saltwater reef aquariums for this reason. Some are poisonous as well, such as the blue-ringed octopus (No anti-venom exists, however, only 3 fatalities on record). I love watching thier behavior, FASCINATING animals! As you saw, they are camouflogue experts which is one of thier main self-defense mechanisms. I love you guys, especially your precious daughter. Great episode guys, TY.

It was nice to see the television cameras at the Australian Open the other night focus in on a fan wearing a light blue Sailing SV Delos shirt. Very cool.

I read the title and took a big deep breath & exhale! I sure could use a bit of this in my life (I am alone & care for my 95 year old mother who has dementia) . Thanks for the mental vacation! Stunning

I look forward to these every week. Thank you guys.

We did the same thing you guys are doing and it was the highlight of our Pacific cruising. We went to Rose Atoll, and a bunch of lovely atolls in the Louisade Archipelago PNG like Conflict atoll. Conflict was the most untouched of all of them. And the clearest water. BUT, internet was not invented, so we were totally isolated. And we cruised with our small daughter too! Enjoy. By the way the people build fishing shacks like the one you saw, in the isolated islands. They travel from their home island to fish for a few months. Therefore the large cistern.

@7:27 Brian, most outboards can produce 12V power if you add a rectifier to them. That, a battery, and a bilge pump would make Maggie pretty happy.

Thank you for a great episode!! While I can say I enjoy the solitude you guys are experiencing, I can definitely say my max time for that is 3 months. I learned this during the very beginning of COVID lockdown. Sierra is definitely living the life! I can’t imagine her not looking back on all these family videos fondly later on in life. Enjoy the solitude.

I love the little swing you made for Sierra. I think no other child has had a handmade swing in such an idyllic setting. She is definitely going to have some wonderful childhood memories.
  • Amazing!!! Pure joy as I sit at my desk and dream about being alone on an island with my favorite humans !! Thanks for sharing

Another fabulous video. From the cool, relaxed conversational tone of dialogue to the great videography and editing. You and the Delos editing team are doing a wonderful job and it’s no wonder you guys are watched so much. And… what an amazing opportunity and life for Sierra. She’s getting more adorable by the day. Thanks for sharing, Brian, Kazza and team.

I live alone, reasonably remotely - in the Worcestershire Sauce county as it happens - and can go for two weeks at a time without seeing another person. But I do have the option to cycle into a populated area or to call someone if I want to. Mostly I cycle through the Cotswolds, where I can ride for miles and hours without bumping into anyone. On one hand I love living alone but on the other hand, one other person would be great. I don't think I'd be bored ever if I lived away from people with that one special person. I feel totally peaced-out (man) after watching this. Thanks.
  • Unbelievable that you could remain secluded for that long of time with the number of cruisers out there. It's nice to share the experience with friends but it also is great to have the quietness and peace all to yourselves. Enjoy it while you can. Thanks for sharing all the underwater adventures. Octopus are my favorite sea creatures followed by the dolphin, you probably have a friend for life because you fed it. Cheers. D
  • Oh, man...I DREAM of that. I mean, mebbe not for a lifetime, but for a month, fantastic! Reminds me of Chagos...the isolation was transcendental. Thank you, deeply, for taking us along. BTW, I think it's warsh-yur-sister sauce.
