Hydrogen is great but it needs a lot of electricity to produce it in the first place.

Currently electrolysis is 75% efficient. It would not generate enough energy to keep the battery charged much lees move the car. The engineers at Toyota obviously know this. Nice try.

If it destroys Tesla, that is a win

Toyota once was a great and respected car manufacturer.

Looks reality. But need lots of efforts and more innovations. I am confident that Toyota will successfully overcome all the hurdles.

I would certainly be interested in the THS2 Engine, whether gas or hydrogen. This is great forward thinking. I only wish the rest of the industry would pull their heads out of their posterior and understand the buyer's needs and likes, which translate to profit.

Hydrogen engines sound very positive for the environment. Yes, batteries are good, but they are not perfect because we have to mine for the raw materials, which ultimately causes significant environmental degradation...
  • Brilliant presentation, and by far the most technical and realistic in respect of hydrogen utilization for drive trains. I trained as a 'motor mechanic' over 60 years ago and always envisioned hydrogen as a fuel source, of course, I was considered an eccentric dreamer and laughed at by my 'Petro head' colleagues. If any still survive, I'll bet they're not laughing now. Now back to the present era, and for numerous years, I have sown the seeds of hydrogen-electric fuel-cell hybrids being the most idealistic formula for the future, namely hydrogen being the fuel source while feeding the fuel cells and thereafter the electric motor drive train. Once again, like in the past, I was laughed at, but I knew I'd be right one day. Once again, they won't be laughing for much longer, thanks to Toyota's belief in and dedication to hydrogen technologies. I commend Toyota for making my visions a reality, and I truly hope to live long enough to drive one of their amazing hydrogen cars. Toyota undoubtedly sets standards by which all other car manufacturers and similar companies should judge their own enterprises.đź‘Ťđź‘Ť John(UK)

How does Hydrogen fare when it hits a tree, road barrier or another vehicle near or head on.?

What is the name of the background music? It's awesome!
  • Great concept for the automobile's future. it is helpful to protect the environment.

I believe that Energy Conversion Devices in Troy, Michigan was working on these concepts decades ago. They also developed the nickel metal hydride battery.
