In Japan, rental services for a japanese girlfriend or japanese boyfriend have been around, but I recently noticed that you could rent a Japanese grandma for the the day and it got me interested.
Apparently, you can ask her to act like she’s your grandma and do stuff together, help out with house chores, attend family events, or simply ask for life advice, basically anything within reason. So in this video, I share my experience with you renting a Japanese grandmother for a day and the first thing I asked her to do was make me a traditional Japanese bento which later we’ll be taking to the park later for hanami to enjoy the Cherry Blossoms.

Its actually a really good idea tbh. The grandma gets to spend time interacting with others, making her feel less lonely. Seems like a win win to both parties.
  • I could not let her go, she’s such a sweetheart. They say a lot of jobs like this are because they are lonely or want to be part of something bigger.

This is both heartwarming and a little sad. Honestly I’ve give just about anything to spend one more day with my grandmother.

Never have i expected a Paolo video to have that title 😂

Now this is the quality content I come for. This is such a unique experience!

I’ve heard of renting a boyfriend or girlfriend in Japan, but never a grandma. She seems so sweet! I haven’t personally seen my maternal grandma since I was 12 years old, so this was so heartwarming to watch.

I would love to do that. All my grandparents are now deceased. There is something special about the age and wisdom of older generations ❤

Well, i didn’t’ plan on crying today but here we are. This video reminded me so much of my time with my Nanna and the great conversations we had and the advice she gave me as a young man. She was my best friend and I miss her so much.
  • someone mentioned it in another comment, but this is a great idea for the elderly in japan. mainly because of the high percentages of lonely deaths in elders, this is a great way to keep them active and socialized. i hope this becomes more popular and a lot more people and other cultures can get involved with this idea.

At 75, grandma is so beautiful and she looks so healthy 😇
  • This is such a nice service. Sadly, not everyone would have access to such a nice and loving grandmother. In my case, my grandmother died when I was very young so I don't really remember my interactions with her. I only remember her from photos. If I were in Japan right now, I would probably rent her service just to experience having a Japanese grandmother - someone who lived a different culture and era from me. On a macro perspective, this would be a great way for young people of Japan to personally know of grandma figure, who they normally may not have access to due to their circumstances. Thank you so much for sharing this day with us Paolo

As someone who only had a grandmother for a short span of years before she passed, I find this video to be incredibly heartwarming and lovely. I think this is a wonderful idea for those who want a kind touch or just a warm soul to be around them for a day. Not to mention, getting to go outside and just enjoy their company, and to learn from them also, sounds like a decent idea for both parties. I loved this video! She was so nice!

New manga serie, Rent-a-Grandma just dropped
  • I lost my grandma 2 years ago and it still hurts this makes me smile seeing this

i would fall in love with her instantly. i miss my grandma. the bit where he said "i asked her how to raise my son" made me tear up. awesome video
  • @joelgrizzel8371
She is so comfortable in her own skin. Love it. She is cool. Bring her back.
  • My Japanese Ganda made me a bento for school every day and we all helped cook dinner with her. She also cleaned our rooms while we were at school and did laundry. She always had us go for a walk with her in the evening down to the river so we could pick watercrest for her.
  • She’s lovely! When one gets older, it’s good to keep doing what you have love doing. This is ikigai that helps people grow younger as they age. 🤗
