Every now and again the ocean just let's us know how powerful she is.

I live in Ventura. There were no 40-foot waves. Maybe 20-foot. There was just one wave that came in that flooded streets and buildings in one location.

Building a home on the oceanfront is like putting a screen door on a submarine.

Duh, these are King Tides. They happen in California a couple of times every year in December, January and sometimes February. If they happen with stormy weather the waves are higher.

People should never build anything so close to beaches, rivers, unstable cliffs, etc. If you get yourself in trouble then you can only blame yourself.
