I played every Soulcalibur game in 2023! That's right, a whole hour of fighting game goodness covering every Soulcalibur game including Soul Edge, Soul Blade, and even spin-offs like Broken Destiny and Lost Swords.

In this video, you'll see gameplay from the evolution of Soulcalibur, including the modes and character rosters like the guest characters Link from The Legend of Zelda, Geralt from the Witcher, 2B from Nier Automata, and even Star Wars characters like Darth Vader and Yoda!

I forgot how much content SC3 had even compare to later sc games. Wished Chronicles of the Sword made a comeback. Such a cool addition that shouldn't get left behind for this game only.

11:42 Yoshimitsu is a title passed down from wacky samurai to wacky samurai over generations. His first appearance in a game was in Tekken 1, so he’s technically a guest character from Tekken, but he’s a staple in both series. Soul Calibur explores the lives of the first two Yoshimitsus, while the one in Tekken is many, many generations down the line.
  • Chronicles of the sword mode in SC3 is super underrated and could of been a game in itself I loved that game mode and spent so many hours in it lol

SoulCalibur is such a special fighting game. Its a shame SC6's lifespan was short due to poor netcode and general lack of attention by the devs. I hope this doesn't discourage Bamco from making SC7 because 3D fighting games are sparse enough in today's landscape

Since Tekken is set in modern times while Soulcalibur takes place in a medieval fantasy setting, the first Soulcalibur Yoshimitsu was originally considered to be an ancestor to Tekken's Yoshimitsu; however, the introduction of Yoshimitsu II revealed that Yoshimitsus are willingly killed and replaced by a younger protégé as part of a secret ritual, in order to make "Yoshimitsu" appear immortal to outsiders. Therefore, the Tekken version of the character is implied to have inherited the mantle in a similar way

The main story of SoulCalibur VI isn't focused on Kilik: It's focused on Soul Calibur and Soul Edge, and it's a retelling of the canon story of SoulCalibur. Instead of making a new story where everything is different, they kept it the same for the most part, with changes that aren't that big. The Aval organization exists, Groh helps Kilik, Azwel is trying to create a new Evil Seed, the future Cassandra that got lost in Astral Chaos arrives in the past and fights her past self. Those kind of changes. But the events of SC1 made canon by SCII stay the same: Kilik meets Xianghua and Maxi, they go fight Nightmare at Ostrheinsburg castle, Maxi stays behind to fight Astaroth and avenge his crew, Kilik beats Nightmate, Xianghua's sword turns out to be Soul Calibur, Xianghua beats Inferno, Kilik's Dvapara-Yuga is broken. You can't tell what happens to Soul Calibur and Soul Edge between Cervantes' defeat (Soul Edge/Soul Blade) and Raphael showing up to fight Nightmare (SoulCalibur II) without focusing on that.

Soul Calibur doesn't get enough love as a series. Fantastic video

SC3 my beloved. I loved 2 and its where my journey began. I brute forced my way with Spawn the entire weapon master mode to 100% and loved every second of it. SC3 though has so much content in its damn near criminal. It also holds up immensely well in pcsx2 emulators. It'll always take me back to an era where games really came out full to the brim with content and it was unique and fun
  • SC5: let's jump ahead a few decades. Talim (who's the youngest character in SC): that means I'm going to be in the game, right?
  • @parrisxsummers
Not mentioning sophitia in the notable soul edge characters is WILD. She’s the main character!
  • Soul Calibur three has been one of my favorite games since I was a child, nothing in the series has ever interested me the way it has, and I'm so glad to see it talked about, even if it's only a portion of the video. Great vid!

Soul calibur(first to recent: 3,4,2,1,5,6)got me into the idea of actually learning martial arts and history. Killik specifically(closest i got to without having to devote my life to a temple was Okinawan kobudo, but still loved it.) I loved how immersive these games felt and how much the characters stood out overall. Such a great series.

Been a huge Soulcalibur fan for almost 20 years, first with SC2, and I own and have extensively played every mainline game in the series. SC3 has always been my absolute favorite; I'm largely an RPG player, and customizing characters (both original creations and recreating things like your favorite FF characters) has always had huge appeal to me. While later games, 5 and 6 especially, would vastly improve the overall quality of the custom characters and the options, SC3 has a special place for being the first and having special quirks and attachments; the alignment determining voices in SC3 was actually pretty huge. There were only 4 voices per gender for custom characters, one of which was an over-the-top old person, but the four sets of lines for each voice, Light-Hot, Light-Cold, Dark-Hot, and Dark-Cold, as I referred to them, made each voice sound distinctly unique and gave you 12-16 (depending on how much you could get into the over-the-top old voices) entirely different voices to help customize each character. Furthermore, SC3 had Chronicles of the Sword, the best SC game mode ever made, something I have literally spent thousands of hours playing, with the ability to make entirely new sets of custom parties with such a wide variety of weapons and skill sets; a game mode I love so much I became the world's only known speedrunner of that specific game mode. Four and 5 both disappointed for all the reasons Niosai mentioned here, with equipment controlling stats in 4 and 5 just not having any interesting content to use all those custom characters of, and the fact that with a new roster with new characters the new Eastern Trio (Quartet, actually, in this case) of Xiba, Leixia, Natsu (and old man helper Maxi) did pretty much nothing in the only story mode the game had meant there was no way for the community to become attached to these new characters. And after years of silence from the series, we finally got the new SC we all needed and wanted with the series-rebooting SC6, which was nearly perfection--the only reason I still rate 3 higher is because I am just that obsessed with CotS. Libra of Souls is an okay replacement, but still doesn't have the same feeling. But the characters, customization, stories, and everything else was the highest quality, and I had no issues buying those season passes to get the whole swelling roster. The only drawback seems to be that, while SC6 sold well, it apparently has not sold well enough to convince Namco to continue this awesome rebooted timeline and enhanced story, and 5 years later there's still not the hint of a seventh game coming. Naturally, a 7th continuing the series is at the top of any SC fan's wishlist, but I would also be satisfied if they'd give SC3 an HD remaster on modern systems similar to what SC1 and 2 received years earlier; not only because it's my favorite, but also because it's criminally unknown outside of the PS2-playing crowd of the day or real diehard SC fans. The fact that it was released only for PS2 while 2, 4, 5, and 6 were all released for multiple consoles means that any SC fans who never owned a PS console would never get it, and even among those who did, thousands accidentally unlocked a save-data eating bug that ruined their chance to really enjoy the game. It deserves a remaster to bring it back out for more to enjoy and rediscover today. My final genie wish for the SC series would be a standalone expansion of the Chronicles of the Sword mode, a game dedicated just to this gameplay style AND its world and lore, introducing fully fleshed-out and balanced versions of weapon styles totally different from the main SC cast with special focus on the inherently unique SC3 custom character styles (Tambourines, Grieve Edge, Wave Swords, we're looking at you). A more in-depth battle map and strategic battle system in the world of the nations of Grandall, Dalkia and Halteese with enhanced cutscenes and new modern voice acting and graphics, a fresh take on SC combat with different moves sets, and a more detailed look at this unique world they invented just for this game mode--that is my ultimate dream game.

Man, Legends breaks my godsdamned heart, an action-rpg soulcalibur spinoff is such a great idea, but it was so heavily held back by being on the Wii. I hope they take another swing at the idea sometime, but I doubt it. Anyways, fantastic video going over every game in this wonderful franchise, here's hoping we get the next game soon
  • @EinSilverRose
Someone may have mentioned this already but Nobuyuki Hiyama also voices Siegfried so you'd be having a funny VA mirror match with Link and Siegfried in the Game Cube SC2. Another notable character he's voiced is Hiei from Yu Yu Hakusho. He's a stellar voice actor as one would expect.
  • Soul Calibur 6 is my favorite, 3 is a fantastic runner up. Nightmare and Xianghua have been my mains and favorites since 2. My favorite guest character is 2B.
  • @midnitehour1
Soul Blade (Edge) was my first game on the PlayStation! My school friend had Soul Calibur on DreamCast, I played the later games here and there but moved on from gaming in my 20s. This series has always had a special place in my heart, and considering the rich history it’s shocking it hasn’t had an anime adaption.
  • Fun Fact! All of Lloyd's weapons are named after the ones he can obtain in his home game, and some of his attacks are, of course, based on some Artes he has! It's also implied this takes place in-between Tales of Symphonia and Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World.
