Project Voltage has been really cool so far! The artwork is all out and the music video's are still happening! But what is Project Voltage? Just a Hatsune Miku x Pokemon crossover? a Pokemon x Hatsune Miku collab? Well on the surface yes. But they thought good and long about which Pokemon to have partnered with Miku for each type! Allow me to explain.

I wanna point out that Jigglypuff's pokédex number is 39, a number heavily associated with Miku. The reason for this is that in Japanese 3 can be read as "Mi" and 9 as "Ku"
  • @darkonyx6995
Another reason why Miku could have been paired with Aurorus is because, in popular media and documentaries, sauropod dinosaurs are frequently shown to make whale-like sounds, singing, and there is actual evidence that shows that sauropods were likely able to make similar noises, since they had a lot of hollow space inside their bodies, it is believed that their sounds would reverberate a lot inside them, making powerful booming roars and ressonating growls.
  • Fun fact, Miku is commonly associated with the number 39, since in Japanese it's pronounced similarly to her name, which makes Jigglypuff even more fitting as it's the 39th pokémon.

A small add-on to Miraidon, Miku's anniversary concerts that started back in 2013 is called Magical Mirai too

4:33 Also, Miku's original backstory (to give musicians something to base off of) is that she's an android from the future made for singing, so Rotom also works here since it would be able to possess and/or fuse with Miku

Some stuff I thought you should've mentioned! - Psychic Miku has a Twisted Spoon sticker on her bag, as well as an Unown and Bruxish sticker. Both are Psychic Type Pokémon. She also has charms shaped like a Colbur and Tanga Berries, which reduce Super Effective Dark and Bug Type damage respectively! - Water Miku's tan has an odd pattern because it's based on her usual outfit. The most noticeable detail is the detached sleeves - Jigglypuff's dex number is #39, which is a significant number for Miku because of multiple reasons

If you noticed with the grass, poison and dark, Miku has the full team of the Pokémon band the maximizer’s from sword and shield 💕🙏

The artist behind Grass, Fire, Water, Normal, Rock, Fairy, Bug, and Steel Miku is Megumi Mizutani, who has been both Character and Pokemon designer. Notably, she is the designer behind the Tinkaton and Maushold lines.

Another thing about Normal-Type Miku's design is that her hair is done up in a manner reminiscent of Mega Lopunny, another Normal-Type Pokemon that's very much designed after those 80s and 90s aerobic fitness girls, which further ties into the 80s and 90s-esque design Normal Miku has going on.

I dont know if its intentional, but the ground type Miku also reminds me of one of her popular songs "Sand Planet" by Hachi, aka Kenshi Yonezu!
  • @lucylaldy
For Poison Miku; the inflatable jacket is the air supply for her gas mask scarf! You can see the tube that connects the scarf to the jacket at the nape of her neck. I love that design so much! 😄
  • @kaistephens2694
How did you not even mention the fact that Ghost Miku’s sleeves are Spell Tags, the item that boosts the power of Ghost moves?
  • As a fan of Bug type Pokemon, I'm just happy that Deledelewhoooop! is getting some love. Also, Dark trainer Miku gives off Goth Mommy vibes, like that one character from Resident Evil
  • @adrianleonce455
I'm not a Miku fan, but seeing my boi Miraidon become Miku's Dragon-type partner put a big smile on my face. I also love how this choice throws a curveball at what you expect to be her Pokemon partner. Instead of focusing on Miku being a singer, this choice focuses on Miku's origin and meaning. And honestly, that is the PERFECT way to end the crossover art.
  • Miku's hair in the Steel Type image could also be a reference to Celesteela. They give me similar Rocket Engine vibes and design wise Miku and Celesteela can match quite well.
  • @Syiepherze
When you think about it, the old Chatter move is kinda similar to how Vocaloid voicebanks are made from voice recordings. Chatot couldn't have been a better fit!
  • @skyshack4194
Shocked he didn't mention that ghost Miku has the spell tag pattern on her sleeves!
  • Psychic type Miku also has a Power Lens on her wrist, an item that increases Special Attack EVs gained and most psychic type pokemon are special attackers, the patches on her bag also have some deeper meaning, a Twisted Spoon, a Throat Spray, Unown M (for Miku) and a patch that resembles Bruxish's mouth, the charms hanging off her bag are also relevant with a Colbur berry and a Tanga berry which reduce the damage of super-effective Dark and Bug type moves, the last charm is Psychic Seeds an item that boosts Special Defence in Psychic Terrain

This project is even more ambicious than we thought at it has been running since Sun&Moon where the pokemon company started adding one music starter per gen to pair them up with miku
