Another imagined Genesis album.

In this alternative timeline, Anthony Phillips remains in the band. This album is released in early 1971. It features more of Phillip's 12-String guitar and also more vocals by the band's new drummer Phil Collins.

This is created from demos, unreleased tracks and radio sessions. It has lots of edits and sound correction to make it sound like a genuine album.

Side A:
1. Musical Box

  • This band is the reason why I'm a professional musician today. Genesis is pure magic. For me the best band of all times.

I am named Cynthia Jane after the Music Box..I was born in 77 and my dad has been a huge Peter Gabriel fan since before my birth. I will add I like the idea I am named after a girl who chipped off heads with a croquet mallet.

Genesis took us on a journey to a tomorrow land. A land where we could escape to and disappear into two large comfy headphones as the seventies began and rolled by. There we found comfort and solitude in our souls. Genesis was my bed time story and my hope for a better future. Gabriel sang with sincerity and he sang from the heart whilst the beautiful music danced around him. Genesis. They had a beginning but in my mind will have no end…..

There is something indescribable air about 70s art rock/progressive rock.

This early Genesis was absolutely WONDERFUL!!
  • I don't think any real Genesis fan has ever diminished Ant Phillips contributions to the band and setting this group on a path...All these guys are fantastic.

Love this 70s era Genesis. It's what I fell in love with all those years ago. This such a cool gift to this old man, to feel in my 20s again. The power of music, gotta love it. Thanx brother
  • This Band is one of the reasons, that i didn't was a Guerilla in the Civil war in Libanon in the years 1975 IT IS realy amazing🇱🇧
  • Oh I love this. Whenever he's within reach, I always go and see Steve Hackett. They are the reason why in retirement I've picked up the flute, sax and clarinet. Inspirational. Thanks for this

I got hooked on Genesis back when I was 15 years old ( a long time ago lol) and started buying all of their albums. One of my most favorite groups along with ELP.
  • This band has so much potential, if they keep up the good work I wouldn't be surprised if they became rather well known one day! 😃👍🏻

This is an interesting possible Genesis direction. I am primarily a YES fan, but was able to enjoy Genesis starting in 1974, after listening to YES, and King Crimson. I love Ant's catalogue, Geese through today!

I had forgotten that Phillips had a big part in the composition of The Musical Box. Here's this from the wikipedia "Though credited solely to Banks/Collins/Gabriel/Hackett/Rutherford, "The Musical Box" began as an instrumental piece written by Mike Rutherford and Anthony Phillips[2] called "F#" (later released as "Manipulation" on the Box Set remaster). The lyrics are based on a Victorian fairy tale written by Gabriel, about two children in a country house. The girl, Cynthia, kills the boy, Henry, by cleaving his head off with a croquet mallet. She later discovers Henry's musical box. When she opens it, "Old King Cole" plays, and Henry returns as a spirit, but starts aging very quickly. This causes him to experience a lifetime's sexual desire in a few moments, and he tries to persuade Cynthia to have sexual intercourse with him. However, the noise causes his nurse to arrive, and she throws the musical box at him, destroying them both. The album cover shows Cynthia holding a croquet mallet, with a few heads lying on the ground"
