In my experience, pastels always look on paper like they do in the stick, unlike markers.

I use Sennelier oil pastels they are great on top of gouache painting. I also use clairefontaine pastelmat paper. Its great if you want to do a lot of layers with the oil pastel. Lovely landscape.

I recently learned from another online artist that most of the better manufacturers arrange their color charts in color families, always starting with the cooler colors and ending with the warmer colors. I can't tell you how much frustration this has relieved for me. I hope this helps you as much as it did me. Thank you.
  • I really enjoyed this video. Your artwork is lovely. I have to say the way Sennelier organizes the colors in these sets baffles me. I would need to rearrange them too! Thanks for sharing.

This is one of the very best art material reviews I’ve seen. Have you gone out and done Plein air with these Sennelier oil pastels yet? One advantage I see with oil pastels is that they do not require any water at all to work, yet give the color vibrancy and opacity of oils! Did you figure out how to cover up the white parts?

Also, the arrangement of the colors in their boxes does not necessarily follow the color charts.
