Jeff Bezos is posting some strange things on the Internet

Following up re: my remark at 6:24 about AWS vs Amazon retail- AWS revenue is smaller than Amazon retail revenue so my knee-jerk reaction was wrong, but AWS has a higher profitability than the retail side. 📈

My theory is relatively in-line with your thinking that he’s trying to humanize himself. Jeff has spent many years with a mindset of “Everything I put on the internet will be seen by the world, and will have implications on our sales.” That’s probably a pretty stressful social media presence. Now he can loosen his tie a little bit, and it feels like he’s starting to dip his toes into allowing himself to say what he wants, without fear of affecting his business.

And about going back and forth between congratulating and also downplaying his competitors, that makes sense. Any hyper-competitive person knows about the love/hate ration ship with your competition. You want to crush them, but you’re also appreciative that other people have that same drive and desire as you. In the heat of the moment all you can think about is your success and that person’s failure, and then when the dust settles and you’re no longer foaming at the mouth you spend time building each other up and supporting their efforts.
