I remember this famous song when I was in college in early 70’s Mutya Ka Baliling. It popularized the place Sitangkay and Sibutu the farthest islands and very close to Sabah, Malaysia. Watching from The USA.

From 2004-20010 Iwas here in Bongao, Tawi2 including Sitangkay the Venice of the South. That iconic bridge in the middle that served as street connect both sides. I could not understand because most spoke Melayu, a dialect composed of Bahasa Indonesia at Malaysia, and little Tausug. Tagalog is spoken by those who had lived in zamboanga, Jolo, or Basilan. But locals most spoke Melayu as most of the merchandize came from KK, KL in Malasia or Sabah. The gasoline and deisel fuels are sourced from Tampakan, Indonesia.
