This has been quite the week.
After days of working with Big Mama, I thought we had turned a corner... however, turns out it was Mother Nature doing the work, not me.
She ended up going into premature labour.

I've been scrambling around for answers on this tiring issue, and feeling discouraged that nothing we've tried has worked and we are still combatting pregnancy toxemia in the flock.

Things got a whole lot worse when I randomly sampled some ewes and found THREE more with increased ketone levels.
I am panicking now.

  • Oh, Sandi…please don’t feel embarrassed. You are doing all you can to keep your ewes healthy. Sometimes nature makes decisions for you. We love you - you are doing an awesome job! 💕😊
  • Sandi, I can see the love you put into saving this Ewe. I'm so sorry that she lost her babies, but you did save Mama. Love your beautiful soul❤

Hi Sandi! Mum and I are retired goats farmers, and we watch every video and compare and feel your frustrations and victories every time we watch. Please don’t ever feel embarrassed at the curve balls, that is truly what they are, that’s farming. To be a farmer you have to be a strong human mentally, physically and emotionally. And you are all those things. Thank you for sharing with us and taking us along your journey. We love you ❤

Sandy, the way you pay attention and know your ewes is wonderful to get to witness. You are anything but an embarrassment you are truly something that all people should try to be. Please be kinder to yourself but I get it. No one would ever come close to how hard I always judged myself. Lesson I learned, give the same grace and kindness to yourself as you would to others. So happy big Momma turned the corner for her own life but saddened that her babies didn’t survive.
  • Sandy, your determination to get to the bottom of the 'WHY' shows your willingness to learn and for the love of all life.:thanksdoc:🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑♥♥

So devastating 😢 sorry for the loss. 😞 Positive note, you are on the lookout and working to fix the issue. Situations aren't always bad if you learn from them. You are smart Sandi!!! Things change, and you see that. Prayers for strength and a prosperous lambing! 🙏🐑❤️

Sandi, I know it probably doesn't help with the frustration of preg tox, but I for one am intensely grateful that you have been so open about the struggle. I had my first case of preg tox this past lambing season and I couldn't get in touch with my vet. Because you have been so open about it I was able to notice the signs early and start treating her before the vet even called me back the next day. I managed to save her and one of her 3 lambs and I have no doubt that if you hadn't showed what the signs were and how you treat it, I would have lost both. So while I can empathize with how awful it is, I just wanted to say thank you.

My husband looked at Big Mama 2 and called her “Sidecar”. It’s so sad that she lost her babies.
  • I love your vet Rex. He seems to give advice that makes sense. I like the suggestion of doing random testing. Have a great day everyone 🤗❤️.

Just starting my coffee when Sandi gives us a new video. What a way to start the day! I hope new big momma continues to improve. Sending lots of good vibes. You’re an amazing person Sandi!
  • No matter how good you are - heck, you can be perfect - but there is always one powerful woman that none of us can beat: Mother Nature.
  • My grandpa was a farmer for over 80 yrs, was good at what he did, and still had periods of bad luck with his animals and/or his crops. It happens to the best of you. It's not a fault of yours... it's life. Please don't be embarrassed or give up. We love and support you! ❤

Brilliant for realizing the feed was off for your flock 💞. Your intelligence and insight are something you should be proud of. Zero reason to feel embarrassed. Things will improve moving forward with the changes to the close-up ration. Great catch. 💔for the loss of 3 beautiful lambs. But mama is still here because YOU took care of her.
  • @carolyns9687
Wow! You are amazing! You have incredible " sheep sense" to care for your flock! Very intuitive! Wow! Just WOW ❤
  • @iris5678
You got this, Sandi! You'll get through this like you've gotten through everything else! <3
  • Hang in there girl! You got this. Please give yourself a break. You caught it. You are doing great
  • Sending all my love and prayers Sandi. You are allowed to feel overwhelmed and sad and tired. You are not only “reacting” you are learning and can apply proactively soon. Be kind and gentle to your heart and soul.
  • Sandi, a gentle reminder: it can feel earth-shattering when things are not going perfectly. You deeply care. The weather has been wild, and in general, things have been very busy for you and your family. You give your flock an incredible life and top notch care. Its not an assessment of your care or skill. Remember, nature is gonna be nature. You are doing incredible things. You got this, i promise . We are all cheering you on. ❤❤❤❤❤ take a long hot bath, do a puzzle with jess in the cabin, go rock climbing, anything that brings you joy. Self care, my friend. ❤
  • You're doing everything you can and know. You're progressing and learning. That's the best anyone can do. Thank you for a lovely Sunday vlog.
  • Sandi you are a great sheep farmer! Your intuition is spot on and your heart is in the right place!
