LYRICS
I wanna come home to roses
And dirty little notes on Post-it’s
And when my hair starts turning grey
He’ll say I’m like a fine wine , better with age.

I guess I learned it from my parents
That true love starts with friendship
A kiss on the forehead, a date night
Fake an apology after a fight

I need a man
Who’s patient and kind
Gets out of the car and holds the door
I wanna slow dance
In the living room like
We’re 18 at senior prom and grow old with someone
Who makes me feel young
I need a man who loves me
Like my father loves my mom

I wanna road trip in the summers
I wanna make fun of each other
I wanna rock out to Billy Joel
And flip our kids off when they call us old
He’ll accidentally burn our dinner
And let me be the scrabble winner
And when my body changes shapes
He’ll say oh my god you look hot today

I need a man
Who’s patient and kind
Gets out of the car and holds the door
I wanna slow dance
In the living room like
We’re 18 at senior prom and grow old with someone
Who makes me feel young
I need a man who loves me
Like my father loves my mom

And if he lives up to my father
Maybe he can teach our daughter
What it takes to love a queen
She should know she’s royalty

My Dad was killed in a plane crash (military) when I was 6 years old (I'm 65 now) and my mother never remarried. She had a picture of my Dad on her nightstand all my life. She passed away recently as I whispered to her that she would soon be reunited with her precious husband, the love of her life. She never stopped loving him and this song gave me the sense of what life would have been like had they had their whole life together! Thank you, thank you, thank you for filling an incredible place in my heart with your words and music!

I once told my father... "I'll marry someone like you, Dad." He smiled and said, "marry someone better than me." And I love my Dad more than ever.

This song got me. I told both of my daughters to always find a man who treats them better than I treated their mom. I have been with my wife for 33 years and she has always been my queen! I have never told her no! Gave her everything I could possibly give her. My oldest daughter got married to a fine young man in 2021 and he learned that lesson very quickly. One night my daughter jokingly called me (she was pregnant) and told me he would not go get her a pizza from her favorite place because it was snowing. When I showed up at their door, 45 miles from my house 1 hour later with that pizza he knew he messed up and has never made that mistake again. Now that my wife is sick, my son in law is the first person to check on me every day and treats my daughter better than I could have dreamed! God bless you for creating such a treasure of a song!

Hits different when your parents don't really love each other that way
  • For those who say that they can't relate to this.. Don't worry, one day your kids will sing this to you 🥰
  • I wish every daughter could sing this song without being sad, I wish every child was born in a happy family

This is what happens when you grow up in a healthy loving environment, you look up to them and be inspired.. I wish I had them like you. :'(
  • Some girls like me never wants a life partner like their own father, but this song brought me to a person who loves me like how i dreamt of how my father should have loved my mum .

As I listen to this song, I am crying, not because it is sad or touching, but because my mother never experienced this kind of love to my father. Let us pray for our parents.

I grew up in a divorced family, never had a loving father and the memory of him beating my mom is still fresh in my mind ( im 20 years old now ). Later on after the divorced my mom remarried to my now stepfather. I swear growing up without a father figure is a tough life, but when my stepfather married my mom, that's the first time ever I felt the true meaning of a father's love. Thank you, Jax for this song. I'll play this song for my stepfather at my wedding day, he deserves every good things in this world.
  • This song is exactly what i feel for my parents. My mom passed away 5 years ago, she wasnt scared of death but worried for my father feeling all the pain and heartache. They're both madly and deeply inlove with each other that lifetime isnt enough. My dad still cries everytime we talked about her and those memories. I feel like half of him died when my mom passed away.

as someone who comes from a "broken" family, listening to this song brought me to tears. Your parents' love is so beautiful that I'm sad I could not relate. I do not want to marry someone like my father because he constantly cheats on my mother and my mother just lets him and pretends she doesn't know or care. she didn't want to leave my father because she doesn't want her children to grow up without a father. my mom is such a strong and wonderful woman, and your song makes me sad that she couldn't experience this kind of love that I know she deserves. and I just hope in the future my man would love me like your father loves your mom, and if it's ever possible the time when my mom really find her true love❤️

Why am I crying😭😭😭this is so beautiful!
  • I am a dad. I also have a daughter. I was listening to this song and I found myself crying. This song gets me to my core. I hope my daughter would see me this way.

I’m 30 years old. My parents got divorced when I was 14. They hate each other so much. When I invite one to my house I can’t invite the other one. They don’t know how much that hurts. I met my husband when I was 15 and we got married at 18. We are still in love & best friends since day 1, but if someday that changes and we have to go our separate ways I’ll make sure to still be his friend regardless, for my children.

Anyone who says a strong father isn't important in the life of a child should listen to this song. Strong confident fathers show boys how to behave like proper men, and, to the point of this song, strong confident and loving fathers show young girls how they should expect to be treated as a young woman.
