I wasn't allowed to pick my own clothes until I started buying them. When I finally was allowed what I wanted, I still have issues when it comes to choosing my own style. This resonated with me hard-core. Very appreciated.

i love expressing myself through clothes, it’s possibly the best choice i’ve ever made. harajuku fashion is a whole part of my identity now, and i’m just a happier person as a whole. anyone who wants to dress differently, go for it! it’s great and you should be able to express yourself too. <3

A funny story about personal style as a teen... My mom has a tendency to show me clothes she thinks would look good on me, and they don't usually suit my style. I was overjoyed one day when my mom found a grey tank top with fushia sequin straps in my size. I said "OMG this is actually cool!" She responded "I was joking!" Thankfully, she wasn't like this mom and got it for me. I relished that top until i rubbed the fushia out of the sequins!

I grabbed a spiderman shirt and my mom said “THATS FOR BOYS, pUT IT BACK!!”

I used to wear the same sweater and pants everyday and my mom hated it. So she took me shopping and bought whatever clothes I touched (I have a habit of touching/grabbing stuff I like when shopping) sometimes she bought clothes I didn’t like but now I’m really happy with my current style and inspired my younger sister. My sister asked me to dress her for a week and now her style has improved alot.

one time i went back to school shopping for clothes and i bought all me clothing from the mens section then my parents were like “yOu HaVe To StArT BuYiNg GiRlS ClOtHeS, yOuR a GiRl!”

My mom yelled at me in the middle of a store when I asked her for a shirt with a rock band on it, she said that it was “rebellious” and to “boyish” The next day, I went out with my gf and I came home with a bunch of clothes that I loved but my mom would never have bought me

I’m a hairstylist and…. Moms are seriously the worst. Living vicariously through their daughters. “I WOULD BE GRATEFUL TO HAVE HAIR LIKE HER!!! WHY DOES SHE WANT TO CUT IT SO SHORT!!! SHES GONNA LOOK UGLY!!!!!!” I had a girl tell me she wished her mom would get hit by a car! Stop abusing your daughters ladies!

My parents have always been like this, they'll tell you they aren't but they are. I'm a baby bat, to those who don't know what that is, it's a person who is knew and just starting out being a part of the Goth subculture. I've slowly been trying to bring my mother around the idea of me starting to dress more Gothic because I love the music and adore the fashion. Recently I showed her the cutest purse I've ever seen, it was black in the shape of a heart with a spider web on it, and my mom FREAKED saying “NO, DEFINITELY NOT-ARE YOU GOTH? WE ARE NOT BEING GOTH” which is exactly why I bought the purse- I'm almost 18, can't wait to move out and be the Morticia Adams I've always dreamt of being.
