  • It takes guts to admit that you fell for a repeated, unchecked lie. Good job dude, for finally fact-checking and admitting that made a mistake
  • @mfsebcw
It takes a big man to check his presumptions. And an even bigger man to admit when he was wrong. I was right there with you, and im glad to know that we were wrong.
  • @DaemonJax
I was a cop in CA a few years before that and it was common practice to just toss the weed (user amounts, joints) out on the ground. It just wasn't worth doing the paperwork unless there was some other real crime involved... but for traffic stops and stuff like that, nah. So I never believed that Harris locked up thousands of people for pot because cops in CA just weren't arresting that many people for pot.

I love that now people are combatting the misinformation
  • @geewiizi
She created a program to help keep upung black men out of jail as an intervention
  • @Lovelyone1
And if I remember correctly….the data doesn’t even differentiate the race of the convictions or of the ones who actually went to jail.
  • @darkreigncometh
Imagine that! The internet lied. Thank you for having enough sense to do your own fact checking.
  • @kathryntyler2565
Happy to make the time to listen to a man whose checked his assumptions at the door and done his research! Happy to listen to anything youve got to say! Keep it going!

The ethnicity of those 45 is unknown, so those 45 were not necessarily all Black men.

Like a lot of Americans, black and white, (and our friends in Canada and Europe), we all arrived at supporting the decriminalization of pot in our own time. For me, I thought it should be legalized in 1980's. For others, as studies, scholarship, data, feedback from law enforcement, and the courts gained traction in the press...and as the last 2 generations came of age...opinions evolved, minds changed and the law began to reflect modern consensus. Thus, lawers changed how they pursued their practices. We want that, right? Research, academic study, and journalism help shift opinion, change cultural attitudes and the laws that support them. I don't begrudge Harris her record of incarcerations. She was a prosecutor. She did A LOT of good. OUR LAWS are not all just, but they change. She became a legislator, so she could, using her vast experience and expertise, craft law. She is FOR the decriminalization of marijuana now. She openly supports it. She is a center left Democrat who enthusiastically supports unions, labor, human rights, education, and democratic institutions....vs...Trump, who is openly hostile to the rights of each and every American and is absolutely contemptuous of women, POC and LGBTQ's. 💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙

Good on you for owning it and for doing the work to set the record straight. Respect.

Salute, bro! I have lifelong friends (that I love like brothers) who believe that same internet lie. I've been trying to debunk that lie, but unfortunately, it appears to be "baked in"! I'm a persistent person, so I will continue to fight back against that lie excellent clip. Keep up the great work!
  • Good on you for looking into it and owning your mistake! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
  • @chicpotpie3494
It came from Tulsi Gabbert during the 2020 president debate on stage.
  • Brother, thank you. I was told the same thing but read her book and immediately started correcting people. Misogynoir is real and we must stand up and defend Black women.
  • Thank you. I pointed out the story didn’t match her record in 2020, but people didn’t believe it. Hopefully folks will really look at her record versus other DA’s and see that it’s just internet bs.
  • @hideem1
I love that you got bored & decided to check some facts. That’s a productive use of time. Excellent, sir. Excellent.
  • @pepper6845
It amazes me how people don’t educate themselves but take the internet as gold🤔
  • @jandc16
Actually it was The Mercury News. A newspaper that printed up the false story and ran with it for years. When she ran for VP the paper had to print and apology and retract the story and fact checked themselves. There is a YouTube video talking about it. I cant find it right now but its out there.

You know what, even if she did, back then, marijuana was illegal and it still is in some states, just like arson, robbery, trafficking, and fraud all of which can result in a prison sentence. She prosecuted criminals and applied the law to each case accordingly. She did her job. I wonder how many of those men she prosecuted and were sentenced to prison ever voted. There is a way to change laws. The people are in charge, if you want to make a change, get involved, run for office and make that change
