Why ME3's ending is so dumb when taken at face value

I thought I'd get in on this before Extended Cut comes out.

I have to say I'm not really thrilled with what we've been told about EC so far. Same ending, just with a few more scenes to make this ridiculous ending at least semi-coherent. Bleah.
