The Wendigo is a mythical creature originating from Algonquian folklore, primarily in the northern forests of North America. It is depicted as a malevolent spirit or a monstrous creature with a skeletal frame and long, antler-like horns. The Wendigo is associated with insatiable hunger and cannibalistic tendencies, driven to feed on human flesh. It is often depicted as a gaunt figure with exaggerated limbs, possessed by an unending appetite that can never be satisfied.

This episode of Rest for the Wicked features dark ambient music and winter forest sounds.

  • Thanks! I'm trapped in a prison, one step out and My enemies just want me dead or worse. This track is here for me because of you @ rest4thewicked

Wendigos, werewolves, vampires, ghouls, jiangshi, zombies, skinwalkers... has anyone else noticed how many mythological monsters worldwide started out as humans?

Amazing. The Wendigo is a very interesting part of folklore. One of my favorites. What they represent and their origins are both incredible topics of research.

I live in the middle of what was Algonquian lands (Michigan) and grew up with these myths and stories because the Native People are still here and they're memories and history deeply honored. Sure the dark and shadows can hide dangers but when it snows and the night is bright and the moon black, its so much more terrifying to hear the crunch of snow from a footstep not your own or a distorted howl in the distance. They come with snow and bitter cold that changed them, flitting across the land like wraiths ever-hungry. No defense other than to never go out at night and keep the fire warm and large. Its honestly why im happy its usually deer running across a field towards the road when driving at night in winter but i never look to hard unless its not. Never know whats just behind those trees or peaking behind a barn or trench along a long empty country road.

This is masterfully done and incredibly haunting. It gives me strong "Pet Sematary" vibes, though the music suits a wide range of horror. It's definitely going on my playlist of background ambiance for prolonged writing sessions!

  • I just started my and channel and this has been an inspiring listen. It is oddly relaxing while terrifying at the same time 😬

Absolutely haunting. Played it during a Fallout 4 session and wow it gave the post apocalypse world such a different vibe.

Nobody: Me: Casually listening to this every night to fall asleep because it calms my nerves and brain 😅
  • Reminds me of when I sacrificed with my sisters in the woods. What fun times!! I miss it 😢

I am an author working on a book called "Betrayed", and your ambience is perfect for writing to! I love "Curse of the Shadowland", "Hall of the Dead King", and "Lillith - Ancient Demoness" as my top 3, but after listening to this, this is definitely making top of the list as well! In the book, there is a powerful and horrifying eldritch deity called the "Shadow Devil" who was partially based off a wendigo! Thank you for the incredible soundtracks and please don't ever stop making more!!! ❤

I'm actually impressed that not a lot of these types of music are made, and it's only pop and hip hop and stuff that only come onto the platform. These types of music really break up the work; great job, bro! 🙃😄

I love the Wendigo tale. Namely from the game "Until Dawn" speaking of which, that game also was in the snowy winter. If I remember correctly the Wendigo was created by a fatality in a specific mountain region and by cannibalizing.
  • So I live right next to a forest that I often go on hikes through during the day time and it is idyllic and inviting during the sunshine hours, filled with bird-song and the sounds of rustling undergrowth caused by wind or small critters but can be incredibly unnerving at night (obviously). Currently it is 1:30 in the morn and I had my headphones on and decided I wanted a cigarette so made my way outside. I made my way out into the middle of my yard away from the comfort of my living room lights and was just gazing into the tree line, imagining something unseen looking back and immersing myself in the atmosphere. I turned around briefly in the direction of my house then heard the sound of footsteps and an intensely low, menacing growl. I turned around suddenly half-expecting to see some deformed creature reaching out to steal me into the darkness, my heart almost literally in my throat. I felt very stupid as I was aware I had headphones on the entire time and knew it was coming, didn't help one damn bit! Suffice to say I finished the cigarette early, shuddered in existential dread then very quickly made my way inside and turned on every light...perfect soundtrack if it can elicit the feeling of dread. 10/10 but not doing that again!

I bought a horror novel a few days ago... I guess I just found the perfect music. 😂🖤
  • @noahhecker6672
Evil creeps beneath darkened eaves, you hear a voice alluring, a corpse hand gropes in the darkness, till you perish, choking on your screams, and the wendigo’s hunger is appeased
  • *Wisco to, 2005, my buddys daughter returns from the woods edge at a field line, where she stated she sighted a Deer with " sort- of evil looking fangs ", she was in mild disbelief of this as she and her family had never heard of any anomaly or such a thing, she was a young girl the n, ivr asked her about it again when our families get together, and she remains clear on her memory. As for me, i make my life in the wilds, plenty stories, only one neighbor gir 1ile around surrounded by millions of acres of treed National Forest, Grand Canyon outer lands...serious chit abound these lands, i have experienced. Love the channel.

Listening to this whole writing a story about being in the snow filled woods at night. I appreciate the creation of this
