Scouting Miami Dolphins 1st Round Pick, Penn State DE Chop Robinson

Published 2024-04-25
In an era where pressuring the quarterback has never been more valuable, the Miami Dolphins massively upgraded their pass rush with the selection of Penn State defensive end Chop Robinson, a 2nd-Team All-American in 2023.

Equipped with the fastest first-step of any edge rusher in the 2024 NFL Draft, Robinson recorded 9.5 sacks for the Nittany Lions in his two seasons in Blue and White. Despite weighing a modest 254 pounds, Robinson has proven to be an every-down player capable of holding his own against the run.

Had great combine numbers, will definitely add to the Dolphins
  • "Rocket up his ass burst off the line" certainly paints a picture doesnt it 🤣

Nick Saban said in 2009, “It’s about affecting the quarterback. You don’t have to sack him to affect him.” Chop affects the quarterback, period. The AFC is QB heavy and the Dolphins share a division with Josh Allen. Chop (and Mo Kamara) will be affecting the quarterback for years to come.

With Chubb and Phillips working back from injury, Robinson will likely feature heavily from day one but by December he could be just a situational rusher. For a team in the middle of a SB window I can't help thinking drafting Barton and re-signing Ogbah post June 1st might have been a better move.

So I assume the recovery of Chubb and Phillips off of injury might be a concern? only way this pick makes sense. kid does look like a freak tho

Didn't realize how thin Miami was. Phillips, Goode and Chubb coming back from injury. Wilkins, Baker and Van Ginkel gone. Veterans Barrett and Ingram filling in. Sacks could be harder to get in Miami without more help coming in.

He played a lot inside. Only 260 but could be 270…could be a March nightmare with Chubb and Phil! Weaver said we would be physical…let’s see!

His numbers don't mean as much as everyone else is saying!!! He was hurt and missed a few games, also sacks are obviously great, but I will take quarterback pressure and hurries that cause an interception or fumble any day!!! Lol WE ARE

Chop was a 2nd rder in most mock drafts and is terrible in run D

He'll probably be a great player for us but wasn't 1st round material. He would have been there for us in the 2nd round. We should have traded down to get more picks. These guys have no idea what they're doing in the draft.
