Alphabet CFO Ruth Porat defended Google’s pay practices and talked about Alphabet’s growth strategies on the Code Conference stage.

“We are very committed to gender pay equity,” she said, responding to a question about the Labor Department’s accusations that Alphabet subsidiary Google is paying women less than it pays men.

She also said Alphabet’s acquisition strategy has focused on filling holes in its cloud efforts and that the Google Home and Nest suite of home devices are staying separate.

  • Kara can get to former employees HR files at Google but still thinks Google is a "blackbox".. Amazing!

How is the Alphabet structure too complicated for her to understand? Sundar Pichai leads Google with all of it's core services. Larry Page, Sergey Brin and Eric Schmidt work with the other long term "bets" and 'smaller companies' like Nest and Verily who each have their own leaders. It was a smart move for keeping tabs on expense of each of the companies and letting Google focus on its software products easily.

do you even worried about money? how much does running google, youtube and these other projects cost to keep them running with their servers and employees?

I thought Kara Swisher came off a rude and almost pissed off at Google. Why? Did they not want to hire her? Ruth Porat is very solid and gave perfect answer to every question except for the competition from Amazon in search. However since Google has YouTube, Android and Gmail their dominance in search will never end.
