If you’ve ever wanted to know exactly how to create your very own ultra-realistic model of an ocean then this is the tutorial for you!

I’ll guide you through ever step I took to not only build the lighthouse but also every tip, technique and method for making the amazing sea water and rock cliffs. The model is built in HO scale and would make a perfect addition to any model railroad.

Having a water feature on your model layout or even as a standalone diorama like this one is will draw the attention of anyone who gazes upon it!

Some of the details in this model were 3D printed on the Anycubic Photon 3D printer, specifically the chimney and if you’d like to download the 3D file I used to make the chimney detail you’ll find it on my website at:

I literally have never made any mini dioramas but these videos are so soothing to watch it doesn’t even matter

You totally need to try doing overgrown, post-apocaliptic city. Weathered, rusty, broken. Filled with greenery.

Luke is pretty much the Bob Ross of modeling. It doesn’t matter if you don’t model, it’s still enjoyable to watch.
  • @williamstdog9
It's a 3-D Bob Ross!!! :-) WOW Incredible work brother
  • @tonigliege1768
I feel like one day your yard will have no more dirt left from all your projects^^ Keep up the great work!
  • Not sure if this is something you would try, but for Christmas, it would be neat for a diorama for something to due with the Polar Express. Perhaps the frozen lake with the train on top. You could do cracking ice, and have tracks coming out from the ice to look like the frozen over tracks. Again, not sure if this is in your wheelhouse, but it's an excuse for a pretty neat icy/snowy scene with some interesting techniques to use.
  • Luke, as someone who works for Walthers, and builds a lot of our models, I have to say you did an absolute bang up job on the lighthouse. It’s always a treat to see how our models can shine (no pun intended) in the hands of a skilled modeler such as yourself. Keep up the amazing work. You’re a true inspiration to many. Cheers.

Hey Luke next could you do an urban environment, maybe a street corner?
  • @lyrem287
"I'm not too worried about it being perfect..." *does it perfectly* Me: damn it, Luke.
  • @ROS3NROT

Here I am again, watching this at 1am. Will i watch it? Yes Will I stay up? Probably not. Will I have great sleep because of this? Definitely.
  • @GoatOfTheWoods
12:20 now, that's skill! Also, one of the best dioramas yet, that water blew my mind
  • I have to be somewhere in 15 minutes, but I see a 25 minute Luke Towan video thumbnail... click. No regrets. Always amazing work! :)
  • @jaek_898
Okay, 12:20 was pretty cool, not gonna lie. How many tries did that take Luke?
  • @Crewsy
The level of realism you achieve is outstanding. Especially when you pose the diorama with a real backdrop.
