Morbius the Living Vampire, real name Michael Morbius, M.D.,[1] Ph.D., is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Created by writer Roy Thomas and originally designed by penciler Gil Kane, he debuted as a tragic, sympathetic adversary of the superhero Spider-Man in The Amazing Spider-Man (vol. 1) #101 (October 1971). For years, Morbius frequently clashed with Spider-Man and other superheroes while occasionally regaining his reason and helping those he regarded as allies. The 1992 Marvel Comics "Rise of the Midnight Sons" crossover event then revived and revised several horror-themed Marvel characters in order to present them as lead protagonists in new titles. The event launched the new series Morbius the Living Vampire (vol. 1), which ran from 1992 to 1995 and now presented the title character as a lethal anti-hero and vigilante. After the cancellation of this series, various stories shifted back and forth between portraying Morbius as a conflicted and brutal anti-hero or a tragic character subject to episodes of madness and murder (once again, most often fighting Spider-Man).

    As someone familiar with Morbius' comics, this portrayal is almost as bad as the Ultimate Spider Man cartoon where they made him a Hydra agent. He does not quip. He rarely smiles. The only funny thing I've ever heard come him in the form of a joke was the throwaway line "I have three PHDs in partying with your mother." A lot of things I can forgive, but they made him into generic Marvel superhero no 278, and is the most awful. Not to mention, I don't think I've ever heard him brag. About anything. Not the Nobel Peace Prize, not his research, his accomplishments, nada. Him giving himself a pat on the back is so out of place. In the comics he literally had a monster powered up by his own insecurities and self doubts. If that doesn't help illustrate my argument then I don't know what is. He works best when he is sincere, and with plenty of pathos. He's who comes in and fixes stuff, not caring what others think of him. If you want to have comedy, he is a wonderful straight man. Though I will give props for using the classic Marvel design for Dracula instead of the stupid white haired discount Magic the Gathering one modern Marvel loves to use.
