Do you want to know what’s next for YouTube? Look to Michelle Khare. Michelle has trained with the army, survived the hottest place on earth, and made us interested in the politics of a cheer squad. Michelle creates Spectacle-based YouTube videos, but hers stand out as the best because of her experience in traditional media. Instead of retention and optimization, her team focuses on experiential storytelling which is brought to life by her director Garrett, and Silas, her editor! Their secret to good videos is surprisingly obvious.

  • Wooo! Happy to see team MK on here! I worked with them for a while and I will say that out of all the YouTubers I edited for in my years, they were the most organized. They didn't just dump footage on an editor and say good luck. They knew the footage as well as you did and gave actual direction. They don't just leave it up to the editor to be the story producer on their own like most creators do. I think that's another reason why their content is so strong, because it's a lot more intentional than most. It has a reason to exist before the camera even starts rolling and the audience can see that too when the episodes drop :)

Thanks for having our team!! 💗💗 ps we are hiring lol 👀

The thing that struck a chord with me was when they were talking about the marathon video. They kept referring to that video as an “episode”, and the fact that their mindset is that each video is just an episode of a much larger story taking over the entire “season”. It’s something not many YouTubers touch on, but it’s definitely what makes their videos so captivating.

Such a beyond amazing conversation! Thank you all for sharing it!

Okay, now I am listening. Michelle's videos are the biggest inspiration for me as of late.

Michelle "Silas was on Dance Moms" -- Silas "uhm, yeah well in production" LOL!!!!
  • @JitsIntoTheSunset
Another absolute banger of an episode!! I found myself nodding the whole way through…. Love this storytelling renaissance on YouTube as this makes Adam and I feel validated with our approach. It gives us hope that if we keep going with our films… we will grow ❤ Thanks again for putting this together and sharing! Xx Tania
  • I love hearing Garret’s role and passion for YouTube. I’ve known he’s been a large part but actually hearing him talk about the process and ideas behind story telling. We need a behind the scenes channel for Michelle and the team. 👏🏼

Man these podcasts are literally blessings!
  • @GamerSibtain
Ngl this is the most informative podcast for me, great job!
  • I want to hear more about the structures of stories! Somrone in this podcast said that there needs to be a start, middle, and end, but how do we do that? Plz have a full episode going over the structure of a great story and the "story arc"
  • @ernestloh3683
Thank you for this! Logan’s editor and Michelle’s editor, director and Michelle on the same show 😍🤓🙌🏼

Great episode guys. The Michelle Khare team are super stars doing storytellers and filmmakers proud, not caving to strictly “retention” editing and honouring people’s attention spans with profound and emotional stories that offer more than a 5second dopamine fix. Also your podcast is da bomb. Shout out to editors everywhere 🎉
  • @HarrisonKing
Michelle is always making good ART, and retention editing focuses solely on stats. It’s encouraging to see that good art will always still succeed in the long run. Thanks for the open and awesome conversation!
  • @MortsGarage
Really thought provoking stuff. I can’t keep up with how much I constantly am trying to learn and your insights are so impactful. Thanks everyone!
  • Nice vid. Thank you for focusing on storytelling. These guests were great explainers. When Ed (Film Booth) interviewed YT influencer Leon Hendrix regarding infotainment channels, Leon said to focus 80% of the vid on WHY [the thing that the vid is about] is important. Leon said just focus 10% on "How to" do the thing that the vid is about. Please, pretty please, talk about this. I can't find ANY other creators talking about this on YT, and I'm a major YT content consumer. There is a major content cap on this/Leon's approach. And given that infotainment channels comprise a massive amount of YT channels, this can benefit so many of us infotainment creators. Thanks! Justin Ziegler
