Papua New Guinea is one of the world's last lawless lands lying 150 kilometres north of Australia. The town of Lae is the economic capital of the country here it more commonly goes by the name "Pothole city".

It's a sorry sight with its battered roads it's packed mini buses and it's extreme levels of poverty. In the streets uncertainty reigns and the police are ineffective trying to keep law and order the locals call upon private security companies.

Papua New Guinea has one of the highest crime rates on the planet. Papua New Guinea is an island half as big as France but with a road network that practically does not exist. There are just 3 main roads that are barely tarmac and yet road transport is vital for the country.

Great documentary! I'm from Goroka, Eastern Highlands Province - I've lived in Sydney since 1997, I miss my extended family and our beautiful forests; a hike in the national parks in Australia is the closest I get to wandering in nature and appreciating the fresh air. Wantok lo Sydney, Ohusapa

I wish you didn't have the narrator dub over the top of the locals speaking. They're clearly speaking some form of English and it would be great to hear it (with subtitles of course as its likely an English we're not used to).
  • I know life can be difficult for the villagers but they smile more than the average American. Thank you so much. Bless these people!

There many re-uploads and this is the third time I watched this video. However, it never stops to amaze me of the people and the life they live in Papua New Guinea. Thanks!

Saya pernah dua tahun bekerja di pedalaman sana. tepatnya di kimbe, autuvo, sera & vanimo. Sepengalaman saya disana benar benar kacau. Sangat disayangkan, padahal alam & laut mereka begitu indah.

Thank you so very much for this video. I’ll treasure it. I absolutely enjoyed this video. It has some familiarities to country life in the Caribbean. I felt I was a part of the journey with the truck drivers. I was sad when the people were and happy when they were. I understand from other comments this is an old video I’m watching in April 2024. I have got to visit PNG. I feel a definite connection to those people and their way of life and struggle to survive. I love the terrain, even the treacherous roads that lends a certain excitement to the journey from one area to another. I wish the very best for PNG and its people. I love you all and look forward to coming there someday.😊❤
